Hi I have used duct tape to fix a hole in our sig (4 years ago) and it still works haven't had to replace it. We stopped using a tarp due to constant water logging beneath despite ensuring it was folded smaller than the sig base (to prevent water getting trapped). We have no intention of buying a foot print either. when we have pitched on saturated areas and it has rained heavilly we have still found the tent to be clean I just keep a old towel to wipe base if req'd when it is being rolled up.

I suspect you could seam seal and then top with Tenacious Tape for double protection. We've not had it happen to us yet (hopefully never!)
