We are new to all this so please bear with us, we have a 1994 abi herald, everthing is working fine apart from a small problem with the water heater. we are getting around a bucket a day of warm/hot water dripping out of what seems to be an overflow/expansion under the caravan, The overflow/expansion pipe come from a t connection with the pipe that feeds the hot water to the taps etc...
We have a what looks like a fused spare with a red light on it that lights up whan we are on mains hook up, we also have on the wall near all the plugs and switches a carver switch with 3 lights on it.
We have had both these on , from reading up a little on the net am I right thinkig that this is not the correct way to do it as we only need 1 or the other not both.
Would us having both on make for the over flow produce so much water (possible getting to hot).
Hi amanda, the carver switch with the lights on is for heating the water by the gas.
the other switch is for running it it off the mains electric. you don't need to use both.
when on the hookup , just use the electric to heat the water and save your gas.
I'm no expert, a novice myself still learning , but this may be the cause of the overflow if its getting too hot perhaps. No idea , we havent had any overflow.
We only put the heater on when we want hot water ,it takes about 20-30 mins to get hot on the mains. Then we sitch it off. we dont leave it on constant, for fear of it overheating.
not sure if leaving it on constant is right or wrong either ?
hello there, you only need to use one source of heat at a time, you can leave it switched on all the time it works on a thermostat, as for the T piece is this a red plastic T peice with a smaller clear pipe that goes through the floor if so this is a pressure ,I think they have a wax seal within so if it's leaking it would need replacing. Although I thought these were only used on Truma Ultrastore's.
------------- here today , where tomorrow?
yet another full timer,
just wondering if you sorted the problem of the leaking water from the overflow, or if anyone else has an answer, we have exact same problem with an abi daystar, looks like the original pipework so really cant understand why everytime we turn tap on water comes out of overflow aswell
Hi, We solved the problem by blocking the overflow pipe with a small metal rod and a jubilee clip round it,from information we got, the overflow pipe is not necessary. We have used the caravan a couple of times since and the system seems to work fine.thanks amanda
