One thing I would say is to just check the side handles/legs fixing points,as we bought something similar( all be it round)from Asda about a month back and after the first use, these side brackets cracked when they cooled down..and it looks as if that Homebase item has a similar composite/"bakealite" type handles..

(..probably from the same Chinese factory... )

We've since replaced it with one from sainsburys, which has no "plastic" bolted to it..

(..although,again similar to that Homebase bbq,for some reason it doesn't have any venting anywhere..it's just a closed "box"!?)

We bought something very similar from Sainsbury's for about £16. I can't comment on the side handles/legs fixing points because ours use steel pins and therfore haven't cracked. Great BBQ for the price.

TIP - You can put the lid on to snuff out the BBQ when you've finished cooking, thus allowing you to reuse some of the unburnt charcoal and cool down the BBQ faster if kids are an issue.

We were thinking about a bucket style barbie out of Tesco's which is about £6.

got one similar    no problems   had it for 4 years now   cheap and cheerful     i put aluminium foil over the top grill and on the bottom deck stops the grease getting everywhere    need to change the top regularly  the bottom much less so

works well but keep the lid on to heat things up  and don't forget to heat the lava before you start cooking   no need to have all valves fully open this will only waste gas

bon appetit

we have a lovely big gas BBQ for home use , took it camping one year but its massive and takes up way too much room in the trailer , ive been trying to talk hubby into getting a little portable charcoal one but he moans it makes the food black , is there a failsafe way of cooking on charcoal and not making everything black ?

do you mean burnt? if thats the case just let charcoal burn right down until it looks like glowing ash.
