Not getting into a row over something stupid but here is a suggestion for you if you dont have anything worth while saying best thing to do is keep quiet.

As for your purist remark hmm do I think you cook on an open fire NO. Do I think you sleep on the ground under a tree NO Do I  think you deserve a medal for not needing a fire yes!!! Oh yeah and inverters arent purest and wernt in my younger days either.

Im not a normally cold person but hearing people say YOU wont need one when first and foremost they dont know your needs as far as im conserened is insulting when all that was asked is WHICH heater not DO I NEED A HEATER.

Take from it what ya like cause really its mind over matter I dont mind because people like you dont matter.

Sorry people if I offend anybody but Nutgone.

I believe it isn't unecessary to have a heater at any time of year; we've camped in the Dorodogne late July with temps in the upper 30s one week and night time temps below 6 degrees the following week. That is cold, especially if it's damp with it. A heater can make your trip more enjoyable; as can EHU. Some people need to chill a bit - it's a holiday not the next Act of Parliament we're discussing here.

Which was kind of my point, & although I said I hadn't seen any insults in this thread, I have now! I mean, what is your problem "violetblade"??? Wind you neck in FFS! I have said nothing to deliberately upset anyone on here & I really have no idea where you are coming from?! You should take some of your own advice & say nothing if you have nothing worth while to say.

& I may be a "bit" of a purist, but I'm certainly no cave man

Getting back to heaters, I don't remember anybody mentioning these. They seem to get a lot of good press on here.

Wow. Who needs a heater with all the brimstone being chucked around here !! Opinions are opinions, and are valid as such even if you don't particularly agree with them. Even the late Prime Minister is entitled to his points of view, despite the fact that I disagree with just about every single one of them.

The Blackcat linked above is pretty good, and I think a lot safer than the little cartridge heater mentioned earlier. No naked flame, gentle heat rather than a blast of superheated air to singe the fur off the dog, and pretty stable on what might not be a completely flat surface. Another point in its favour over the little butane cartridge one is that it will actually work in cold conditions. Ironically, the butane one will start to misbehave just when the temperature has you thinking that it's about time to fire up the heater !!

Ha ha - my butane heater won't work because it's too cold !!

Ah ha! Not just a pretty face then?! I knew I could contribute something if I tried hard enough.
I'm fine with my bear-skin loin cloth though, thanks!

Lol, I should be a Coleman rep, we have one of those. Used in the tent 10 minutes or so before retiring ( with us outside the tent putting the world to rights and making up a hot water bottle for me ). We always have plenty of ventilation btw, and then switch off heater, batten down the hatches, into the fluffy jimjams and off to bed.

Mind you, now I have my Expedition Snugpak, it's probably surplus to requirements.

I'm sure every single person gets something different from camping.  Some like electric, some do not.  Some like heaters, some prefer to wrap up warm.  Some sleep on camp beds, some sleep on the floor.  Some cook every meal themselves, others eat out more.  We are who we are, and it makes not a jot of difference in the end of the day - these things do not make us better or worse campers, as long as we enjoy what we do and do not upset or inconvenience others.  Whatever you decide about the way to keep warm, just make sure it is safe for you and those around you.

Couldn't agree more, very nicely put.
(I wonder how many times you've posted something along those lines in your time on this site?)

Now now children, let's all take a deep breath & calm down.  Nothing wrong with whatever anyone takes as long as they are happy & nobody gets hurt or spoils other peoples fun.  I camped in a canvas tent, cooked on a wood fire, pooped in a hole in the ground & washed in rivers for many years in Scouts.  I now choose to take a trailer tent with an electric kettle & a fan heater.  Nobody need object & I certianly won't object to anyone elses idea of camping.  Lets just be friendly & save the ranting for the pub.  Where is Ratty?  Isn't it time this one got pegged shut?
