Hi folks

 

I have changed jobs and have not been on here for a few weeks.  Hope you all have a great camping season, and are busy planning next years!

I would appreciate some advice on alternatives to airbeds.  Given we have everything we need in terms of camping assets, we are ok with spending whatever it takes to get the best thing for us - airbeds are a bit dodgey for my 16 stone weight with a few old recurring rugby injuries.

Costco did do one.  Outback I think it was called.  It was a fold up aluminium frame with the legs and canvas already attached.  Once unfolded you clip a bar on each end to tension the canvas and keep the bed up.  A friend had 3 of them for him and his kids.  I was very impressed.  When I see one I will buy it as an overnight bed for the house.

Yes if you want the best about £10,000 - £12,000 but it includes a Hobby Caravan. Double bed, warm what more could you ask for. Well you said "we are ok with spending whatever it takes to get the best.

16st you are a light weight a good air will take 4 times that. if you want comfort goto your local anglers tackle shop and look at the beds they offer, they are very comfy, but are not light.

I'm 6ft 5in and a tad over 17 stones. I also carry a number of "knocks" from many years of playing rugby.

The airbed that we use, and thoroughly recommend, is a "high gear, double height" model that includes an integral battery operated pump. As well as being much deeper than the usual at 44cm it is also a fair bit longer and wider too (198cm x 152cm).

I'm with Omega99 - spend about £9000 and get a Pennine folding camper - the Pullman and Pathfinder models have domestic-quality 6" thick sprung matresses!  How much more comfort do you want?!

you can always try adding a Tempur mattress - think they are now around for camp beds now - you said whatever the cost for comfort.......Tempur bed mattress is about 900 pounds, but think the camping top-up for caravans, etc. about 60

I'm 6ft 2in and 15 stone and still coach a rugby team. I've found airbeds to be great if you buy the right one. I'd recommend the Coleman Comfort Double airbed without any hesitation. Two separate compartments so the missus doesn't get squashed and plenty of depth for real comfort, while the fleecy surface keeps you really warm.
