Last year Aldi were doing a 320lt for £80, in fact it was a Mont Blanc but Aldi branded, could be worth hanging on to see if they do them again this year.

We noticed that the "good condition" second hand roof boxes are going for not a lot less than a new box also ! We decided to buy a new one and if we did not get on with we would just sell it for .......... not a lot less than we paid for it ;-)

We kept an eye on the Halfrauds site for when they do a promotions and managed to get a new black 470 litre box for £206. Still a lot of money but a new box gives you piece of mind guarantee.

I gave up with ebay for our roof box and found one locally on gumtree. The ad was really old and very surprised it wasnt sold.Bargain at £40 considering i had bid on ebay up to £80 on several and wasnt winning them.I also got the roof bars from gumtree for far less than ebay prices, could have put them on ebay for double.

The trouble is people are conditioned to think ebay is cheapest for everything. They are also addicted to buying from it too hence the high prices for certain items.

We've hired one - for 3 1/2 weeks, including roof bars and fixtures. Everything is being couriered to us 2 days before we leave and collected the day after we return. Total cost about £95.00. It's a large Thule one too! We have heard conflicting advice about whether it's worth buying the expensive kit so we thought we'd try before we buy.

Would have been cheaper to buy one and resell it. Why waste that much money renting one?

Extra £4 could buy you the halfords black one.

Sell it after.

Anything over £4 is profit.

When bids reach £90 your laughing.

I have compared prices, Halfords, Wilco's etc but the best deal by far for a new box has got to be the roofbox company, and don't forget if you buy it via a link and form on this site then you get an additional 5% discount. The roofbox company have also received a lot of positive feedback from people onn this site that have dealt with them, it's got to be wortha go!

I have been looking into getting a towbar fitted and borrowing a trailer this year.

Had a quote for £200 for a towbar, which would also mean cutting out a section of our bumper, we have a rover 214si.
I'm reluctant to do this, as i don't think the car will last longer than a couple of more years.

I have also looked at the handirack system which at about £150 for the bars and storage bag doesn't seem too bad, but the OH isn't convinced as he thinks the straps holding the bars on will rub against his head when he's driving!

I have never seen a 3dr rover with roof bars on it, had a tentative look for some and found some that will apparently fit for about £65, but as its a 3dr car, i am wondering if there will be enough space between the bars to fit a decent sized box onto.

Anyone have any advice or had a similar problem?

thanks.

MrsCrafty.. That sounds very expensive, The towbar can be bought from £55. Depending on model.

I only paid £150 to have one supplied and fitted to my mondeo.

Check prices on. towequipe.co.uk

glad you got sorted but remember that the bags have been known to leak.so just put eveything you wish to keep dry in plastic bin bags.
