Have any of you tryed any of the bug killing lanterns like the outwell rechargable one do they just attract more fly's or do they work ?
We have used asda citronell tea lights last years were good for £1.00 for 25 this years are poor (no smell at all) just got back from a week in Hereford had a fantastic time chasing little black fly's out of the tent.Just got some tea lights from sainsburys for £1.99 had to put them outside they smell so strong hope they work well next trip in june but was thinking about those lanterns.
Any idea's thanks are there any plants that repell fly's? (lavender)? Moths?
Yes I have 2, one from this seller who I encouraged to list on Ebay as I'd been looking for a while. You can find them at a couple of online fishing shops but it'll cost you double the amount when you take postage into consideration. They were reviewed on here as Clearlite lamps but the original vendor no longer trades.
I bought my first one a few years ago based on that review and I find they do help. Of course you could use any citronella lamp but I think it's the combination of the heating of the blue mats and the oil that gives them a double whammy. I find if I put them down near my feet it saves my ankles and lower legs. Being highly allergic to midge/mozzie bites I take a range of deterrents away with me, and am always up for trying new things, but this is one of them lol

which we also use at home, but in the tent it is absolutely stunning - in both senses of the word! It's perhaps slightly less efficient at getting bugs when they're actually in the air, but for wiping them all out when they have landed on the canvas, it's fantastic. Even big bugs are stunned and fall to the floor where they can be stamped on, and Scottish midges explode in a most satisfactory way.

how does this bit of kit work? or rather what doe u do with it ?
------------- If its not broke, dont fix it, and stop nagging
It's just a simple non spill oil lamp with a special bracket that holds ones of those blue mosquito repellent mats near the heat of the flame. The fumes are then a mix of the citronella oil and the repellent.

I have seen details of the lifeventure battery powered bug killer it's totally portable and costs about a tenner, the refills are about a fiver and apparently it works for about a week constant before needing changing. I am going to have to do something before we go camping next (Late July) as my 10 yr old daughter seems to be like a three course for the little buggers, seriously they make a total mess of her but seem to leave me alone (Well the oh did say that i was incredibly bitter)
I know that it is an old remedy but it's worth a meal laden with garlic, apparently the garlic oil makes its way through the skin and the insects don't like either the taste or the smell - got to be worth a go.

We use these. Much fun for all the family lol
But dont touch it while it is on to see if the batteries are still working. I had to peel DH off the ceiling lol.
We Have the outwell bug bat Im sick of fixing it and re wireing it I have tryed the tea lights as said some are better than athers we have the electric mozzi travel socket as well and the patches we have a huricane lamp with citronella oil but I dont fancy it in the tent as we tryed with a small hanging tea lantern but the citronella tea wax drips & you bang your head on it
