Can anyone give me a rough idea how much it costs to have a caravan fitted with a hot water system. I believe there are a couple of types of boiler but being a complete novice I am totally in the dark about this.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Hi jessielou, we were also looking at fitting hot water to our van, I found the cheapest water heater was an electric one for £145, you then need 2 mixer taps (about £30 each, cheapest), then all the water pipe etc!, all in all we were looking at £200+ and thats fitting it myself!!

we have now decided it's much cheaper and easier to get a second kettle for the gas hob, boil them both and you have more than enough hot water for washing up, washing etc!

Standard Truma system is probably going to be best part of £600, If it doeant have one as standard would guess its for pot washing and having a personal Hygene type splash ot are you intending going the whole hog and fitting shower too.

If its for pot washing and abluting only will suggest a few alternatives.

The reason im asking is because we are thinking that having no hot water in the van will make our van less appealing as were thinking of selling. We never use the shower anyway, why make the van damp when sites have such fab facilities so its only for washing up really. We also have 2 kettles which give ample water for that.

As it a German van we also dont have an oven or grill although nowadays most people use microwaves and barbacue a lot of the time.

We thought that if it was cheap enough to do it may be worthwhile to increase our selling power but if the costs are as you say it probably would be a waste of money.
