Hi,

Has anyone fitted Erde universal load bars to a Caddy trailer? Instructions are next to useless & my boyfriend is ready to chuck them over the fence!  We have high side extensions to our trailer and are beginning to wonder if they will fit at all??

Help please :-)

Does anyone have an answer to this? According to Erde the minimum width of the bars is 90cm, but that's just customer services talking, and not someone with a tape measure!

I have exactly the same trailer and need load bars for it - I want the Erde ones and will resort to a hacksaw and welding if I have to, but wondered if anyone who actually owns a set could tell me exactly how small they can be squeezed (ie could they be made to fit an 85cm gap?)

Hi, did you ever get these to fit? I have the same trailer and wondered if that was possible.

Yes I did. You need a hacksaw to cut one inch off of each of the 4 slider bars, and you have to drill 4 holes in the trailer to secure the bars - but it's not difficult to do at all and the result is a really good fit!

I have the Caddy 535 with factory extended sides which double the height on the load area.
I did the same as DaveW1972 with my old set of Ford Mondeo roof bars.
I used heavier version of wings nuts which lets me put on / take off quickly without much fuss.

So presumably you need to chop that inch off either end to bring them in a bit in order to fit

Been so long ago but yes I just cut around 2" off the one side and that meant they did not stick out past the side of the trailer.

Ah right. Would that be an issue as the trailer is only 3 foot wide. Or do they hve to sit flush with the sides

My Caddy 535 is 110cm or just over 43" wide , so a bit wider than your model.
I made some metal plates to fit roofbar fitting kit and the trailer. I think the roofbars are not meant to stick out past the sides of the trailer but I could be wrong?
I suppose it depends what you will use the bars for i.e. roof box or cycle racks?

Yea ours is 3 foot wide so I may need some other bars. I was more just curious really to see how it was done. I guess I'd use it for bikes maybe and keep the roof box on the car

Hi davew1972. I've just bought a Caddy 640 trailer (4 foot wide) and was hoping to fit Erde universal load bars to put bikes on. Please can you upload a picture showing how you managed to fit them? Cheers Si
