We have just come back from a weekend camping only to find that the soft plastic water container that we used had a very odd taste to it, what would be the best way to clean it, to remove the taste.

Bin it. Buy a big bottle of water from the Supermarket before you go and use that. Can be recycled or reused as well.

I think soft plastic always tastes the water. I use the sterilizing tablets or solution for baby bottles to sterilize our hard plastic water bottles and they've never caused any problem.

A weak solution of Milton then rinse well and ensure fully dry. I do as Simon posted, and many others do, use 5litre containers of mineral water. Most supermarkets sell them for £1 or less.

I'll second that. Where else can you buy a reusable 5ltr. container for under £1? And it comes full of free water!

I think the soft plastic water carriers were our only 'bad buy' when we came back to camping last year.

 It depends how much work you want to create for yourself, you can go down the road of sterilising tablets or solutions if you want, alternatively buy a 15ltr water container from poundland use it for a week and then just recycle it.

H we too used to use a plastic water carrier, we found that using a baby's sterilising tablet and only left for a short time worked but then we decided to do the large water bottle from any supermarket-, great water, good carry handle to re-fil, very recyclable, in fact we got 2 in  Feb when we were away- they are still in use, take them home from the van when packed up, clean at home, re-fil from your home and take away, you dont have to buy water for the fist day, day and a half. gary

A friend suggested this to us, but we ended up camping next to the water stand-pipe when we went to Billing earlier this year.
