How many are you meant to take when towing a caravan in France?

.....3..for scenario of caravan left beside road so triangles front & rear of caravan & 1 is still needed to be carried in car.

If you are going to France don't forget to wear your hi-vis jacket before getting out of the car to set up your warning triangle..........

The spare bulb law is a bit of a problem now days. It's quicker to do a full service, than change a headlamp bulb on some modern cars. Renault I think are bad, and I had to take the front off my Rover to replace the bulb.

Spare bulb kits are no longer compulsory in France. Spare driving glasses are though. First aid kit isn't either, but if you are unable to assist at the scene of an accident you can be charged under good samaritan laws, so take a first aid kit.
Warning triangle is also required to be easily accessible, so not under all your stuff in the boot, same with the hi-viz vest, that's best kept in sight, on the back of the drivers seat, or you may get a nosey copper pulling you over to check you have it.

A not very interesting fact: there's a treaty called the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, that almost all countries except China are signed up to. It's this that allows you to drive your car as a tourist in foreign countries, even though it may not comply with all the requirements normally applied to vehicles in that country - size and colour of number plates for example. With some specific exceptions, if your car and its equipment are legal in your home country, other signatory countries should accept it as "international traffic". One of those exceptions is that you may be required to carry a warning triangle, but there's no provision for any equipment other than that. So in international law, a UK registered car shouldn't be required to carry a hi-vis vest, bulb set etc.

Good luck explaining that to the gendarmes at the side of the road though

Why three triangles? One for car, one for caravan makes sense, OK. Why two for the caravan? Yes I understand the front and rear point, but why not one for front and rear of the car too?

For Cars (sorry - just realised you said for caravan)

In France the Road Safely Dept strongly advise carrying 2 Hi-Vis vests

It is compulsory to have the following

Spare bulbs for all lights
GB sticker on car or part of your numberplate
Headlight Converters
Red Warning Triangle

It is recommende you carry

A fire extinguisher
A first Aid Kit

I found this on one site when checking it out for us.

You need to take the following documents: full UK driving licence, vehicle registration document, insurance certificate (green card not necessary) – make sure your insurance company covers you for driving on the continent, European accident statement form (available from your insurance company , vehicle recovery insurance certificate and information pack. You will need a letter of authority to use a company car.

In Spain it is also compulsory to have 2 warning triangles and a hi-vis jacket for each person travelling in the car.

The AA do a guide for all countries here

In your link for the AA, it states bulbs are not compulsory only a reccomendation. I have also read the same statement on a different AA form.
