i have the gelert wind up/solar radio.....wind up is 60 seconds lasting about 20 mins(although you will be suprised how short this feels!!) but if the weather is sunny it will run happily on solar power until it clouds over...good sound and tuning .....
The weak point of all wind up gadgets seems to be the quality of the rechargeable cell fitted. Most of the solar or wind up items I have had stop working after a year or so, basically because the cell fails.
If you can get it apart and fit a decent quality cell, or can replace the cell when it fails, then all well and good. But on most of them it means chucking the whole thing away which is a waste.
I have had one of these for about six years now Radio
It wasn't the cheapest but it lasts for days and can be charged through the mains in advance, as well as solar power.
Tesco last year sold one for about £5, had option to use conventional AA batteries or the wind up rechargeable so best of both worlds if you hadn't the energy!
bought a bush one off argos clearance on ebay for 6 quid but when it arrived the wind up function didnt charge the cell.
So just ordered a baylis solar/wind up radio and hopefully being bayliss should work as intended, also comes with a usb cable to allow you to charge up usb items like your htc phone or other bits n bobs which is useful.
Fingers crossed it works and lasts more than 5 minutes lol
