I have just bought a campingaz bistro stove and it says that it should only be used with CP250 cartridges. Are you able to use the cheaper branded ones instead?

The simple answer is yes i have always used the cheaper cartridge's without any problems at all

Yes you can use the cheaper cylinder but be aware of the weight of gas the campingaz CP250 hols 250gm of gas the gelert mega 1 has 220gm and some go as low as 205gm

I can buy the CP250 off the shelf at £1.50p and the gelert mega 1 for £1.25p so tend to stick with the campingaz as I find it burns hotter and boils the kettle quicker than the mega 1 canisters

there is another thread on here somewhere about these cookers as we were looking to get one recently - will track it down and post link

apparently some canisters do not have the collar at the top and dont work - if you have a CP250 in front of you it will make sense

We get Kampa ones from Towsure 4 for £4.85 and 220gm each if memory serves me right. Amazingly we got 4 proper CampingGaz ones free with our stove at Yoemans.

Are these stoves any good. We are looking at getting one.and how long do they last, will only be doing things like boiling the kettel and heating some beans up on it. lol

I found them ideal. I had 2 instead of a double burner and big gas bottle. Works just as well.

get a folding toaster (the flat one not the pyramid type) to go with it , brilliant, faster than electric toaster .
Keep out of draughts, use a windshield for faster cooking.

can't remember how long the burn time is, but we used to use about 2 for a weekend , big breakfasts, tea and coffee , evening meals, and this was for 2 families,4 adults 5 or 6 kids .
to save on gas ,when doing spuds when not in a hurry , bring to the boil and leave with the lid on , switch gas off, the heat will continue to cook the food.

I used to bring spuds (cut smaller than usual)to boil in the morning using any hot water left in kettle. , leave lid on , and they would be amost done, just a few minutes boiling to finish off at lunchtime.

Yes thats the one. You put the toaster on the ring with the gauze side nearest the flame. the bread sits on the top , not inside the frame. a lot of people make this mistake to start with.

beware it only takes about 10 seconds , have a tongs handy to flip the bread over and do the other side.

Warm your beans up first :)

We've always used the campingaz bistro stoves and found them to be brilliant. They recommend you use campingaz canisters but we have used others and they have been fine. However, we did buy a 4 batch sort at a local market (can't remember the name of them) and they lit OK but the cans didn't last long so now I do tend to buy campingaz canisters as they last ages!

Hello all.
I have a Bistro, my wife could not get on with the single burner Bluet stove.
The Bistro is ideal for her to use, whilst I'm off cycling in the forest.

Just a point on the Cartridges for it.

Most of the ones for it have Butane only.
Whilst this is fine for the warmer months, the pressure drops significantly in cooler ones.

At + 4 degrees C a full cartridge took a long time to heat my pot of water.

I have managed to purchase some Butane/Propane mix cartridges for it. These maintain the pressure at sub zero temperatures.

'BrightSpark' compatible ones fit my Bistro perfectly.

I bought mine from Halfords, the cheap ones in the local market are also Butane only. Despite them being on sale with a gas heater.
