I need to know if i can use my EHU with standard household appliances (such as my laptop). If not, can you please explain the reasons and is there a solution such as a transformer or a convertor of some type.
Also i am due to go to france camping, is it the same there or again do i need transformers/convertors.
Your help is appreciated as i don't want to cut corners but have a budget aswel!!
Should be no problem. The EHU gives you sockets, the same as domestic ones. The only limitations are the maximum power you can draw (depends on the EHU, and the campsite specification) and the leakage current trip. This latter area may cause problems with marginal devices, but unlikely.
Laptop power supplies etc. should be OK.
Same goes for France, although power limits are often lower than UK sites. Still should be nowhere near a problem for computer supplies etc.
Standard appliances will work fine anywhere in Europe as long as you keep withing th campsite supply rating. Most EHUs are rated at 10Amp (in spite of the supply being a nominal 16A). Some sites are as low as 5 A. Amps x Volts = Watts. Voltage across Europe is a nominal 230 Volts. 10 x 230 + 2300 Watts. 5 x 230 = 1150 Watts. Avoid things like rapid boil kettles, 3 KW heaters etc. Stick to appliances of 2KW or less & as a general rule don't run more than one heating appliance at a time. You should be fine. As for connectors, your blue plug will fit most sites across Europe. For those that don't, you may need a European adaptor. Available from any caravan shop.
Ive used my laptop in France, Belgium and Holland no problems, needed a European adapter in Holland and they had reverse polarity, no adapter in belgium or france on the sites i used but I would take one just in case!
