Hi all, I have a vango juno 800 and would like ideas for a porch/shelter area. I have been looking at the vango family shelter but dont know if it will work with the tepee tent.I have also looked at geting a tarp and poles but wouldnt know what to get. I have seen one that I like the look of but can't find in the uk its a luxe outdoor smart tarp I dont know if these are any good. Any help anyone, thanks Mike

Mike

take a look at the tarps by dd hammocks such as the XL - these are backpacking tarps and so come with connection points across the centre as well as the edges. They do not come with poles though, but you may have spare poles from a tent. Some suggestions on the DD site for potential way to use the tarp.

Also a few folk on song of the paddle have the same tent, shown here with tarp set up - food for thought

What about the decathlon one? £19.99?

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/tarp-3243880/

(Glasgow East store)

Could set it up as I have done with the canvas one on the bell tent?

Homer highly recommends it..

something of a bargain there Val

so mike for shopping in Glasgow - this by no means an exhaustive list and I am sure other weegies will chip in

Val has already mentioned decathlon, never been - the fort and silverburn bring me out in a rash

http://www.tkmaxx.com/ have stores in the city and at some of the out of town places - good place to pick up waterproof (usually have a lot of craghoppers stuff) and fleece clothing and torches lamps and bits and bobs but a bit hit and miss

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/ - at Coatbridge and Clydebank, in store it is a 4GBP/year shopping club but you can also buy on-line sans fee. Worth signing up for the e-mail alert.

http://www.tiso.com/ and http://www.nevisport.com/ are both very good outdoors shops with knowledgeable and amenable staff - been allowed to take footwear on (in-home) trial before. Not sure about tiso but nevisport have a e-mailing list. Of the 2 I prefer nevisport as I have always had exceptional service from the staff and any kit I have bought from them.

http://www.blacks.co.uk/home.html and http://www.millets.co.uk/home.html both have a few locations in the city. Neither shop is what it used to be, IMHO blacks has become a bit of a fashion chain rather than an outdoor shop.

north face and rohan have city centre shops, unless you are strong willed it is definitely worth leaving your credit card at home. Rohan's sale is usually quite good

there is also a scout shop - you don't need to be a scout to shop there

there are also some good army surplus places such as http://www.clearwater-outdoor.com/ and http://www.adventure1.co.uk/

as i said silverburn avoided at all costs

this little piggy went to market
this little piggy stayed home
this little piggy went to silverburn, found it difficult to park and all of the shops incredibly busy
this little piggy went to a local independent retailer and was satisfied with the service they received
that little piggy went wee-hee-hee-hee all the way home
