Hi all

I cook with a Hi Gear 2 hobs and 1 grill with a regulator and gas bottle, works ok though I have Bought a Coleman Northstar and also a Coleman Black cat Heater

It would make sense if I also bought a Coleman Propane Cooker/Grill that way I would only ever need to use one type of gas bottle

Am I just looking for an excuse to buy something else ??

Given you can refill the Coleman bottles easily enough and also use a bulk hose adapeter sounds perfectly reasonable to me. We have the Northstar and the Blackcat and if you look at my gallery you'll see a propane stove with the bulk hose attached. This is the setup we are taking for 3 weeks to Europe. Just a couple of the one pound bottles & a 6kg cylinder.
Whether or not you are using it as an excuse, lol only you can answer that one.

there's a thread worth reading here

We have filled the bottles successfully and used them without issue. these parts are sold widely in the US and we all know how litigious and safety concious they are.
We bought our house and refill thingy in the US on holiday after researching it extensively beforehand.

I wouldn't bother with the hob & griddle thingy, I would go for a double burner (maybe the fold'n'go?) as I get the impression that the griddle is a bit of a gimmik, a waste of a good gas burner & easily replaced with a cast griddle that you simply put over the hob whenever you need it, thus leaving you 2 good hobs when you don't.
But yes, they are refillable & you can also get a kit to fun the coleman propane stoves straight from a calor cylinder (with regulator I think).

Wanted to add, for anyone worried about a) refilling the botles or b) using a hose..

Coleman make the stoves / heaters / lanterns
Coleman sell the 1 pound canisters.
Coleman sell a refill adapter ( in the US )
Coelman sell the bulk propane hose ( in the US )

details can be found on their site

here

It's not a Heath Robinson solution.

I bought this stove last year for family camping. It was brilliant as we did a full breakfast, sausages, bacon and tomatoes on the grill, fried eggs using the ring, and we used it rather than a BBQ. We also made several slices of toast on the grill. Ok there are other Coleman stoves and I considered them all then settled on this. I also have the black cat heater which came as a freebie but I haven't used it yet. This week I bought the Coleman Northstar lantern as I wanted one using same type fuel.

Not sure I'd use the big stove just for me for a 2nighter though as I still have a case type and several cartridges to use up.
