I'm fed up with buying chairs.

Hubby's Coleman chair has bent - he loves the chair and is gutted as he's only had it a year. He's 18/19 stone and we didn't check the weight limit so I guess that was the problem.

We have a pair of Dukdalfs but he doesn't like his and getting two of them (with foot bits) in the trailer is tricky as they take up huge amounts of room (and I'm not giving up mine!)

So the hunt is on again!

From other threads I can see the Royal Commander gets good reviews and he's within the weight limit.

I wondered about Carp chairs but I'm not sure how well they pack up and whether they can be high enough to sit at a table to eat?

Help please!

I'm a Royal Commander fan - very comfy and you don't worry about them collpasing! It does take more space in my boot than my canvas tent though

Oh no, I don't want to hear that! Is it an umbrella fold?

I'm hoping that it would slide down the side of the trailer without being too big?

I'll measure the folded size tomorrow if no one else comes up with it first, but it is bulky.

I have to go to work right this minute though so can't do it now!

they are umbrella fold, not particulary heavy, but a bit on the bulky side - BUT i would sacrifice any bits for my comfy chair, that feels safe and secure and that i can curl up in in the morning!   also love the Royal recliner, slightly slimmer and longer when packed - VERY comfy this weekend we ended going in 2 cars as hubby joined us after work, so i took the commander and the recliner to help me decide which one to take on our main hols - still can't decide!!!

Another one to look for is the Quest aluminium with arms. Similar to the Commander chair.

Thanks all, Whiskydry, if you wouldn't mind measuring that would be fab. Thanks so much.

Hopefully it'll slide down the side - the dukdalfs have got quite a lot of curve in them and the four bits together eat up masses of space and as he doesn't like his anyway it's pointless. His Coleman was an umbrella fold and biggish but it fitted in OK.

Does anyone know where I might find one around Bristol? Go Outdoors perhaps?

The Quest looks lovely but doesn't appear to show a weight limit?

Fed up buying chairs, only one way to go in my opinion. Lafuma yes expensive, but mine are now 15 years old and so so comfy. Only replaced the elastics this year with genuine spares now good as new for another 15 years.
And they do an XL for the bigger man. They have one really annoying problem though that I have never be able to solve, every time you get out of the chair to do something, when you get back to it some git will be sitting in it.

Hi PigletandTigger

The Royal Commander chairs, when folded in the bag are 37"(94cm)high and approx 12" width (38"96cm diametre around the widest padded part and 33"84cm diametre around the legs)

Although the weight limit states 130kg(approx 20stone)My OH is 24stone (6'1")and after having the chairs for 2 years and regular useage there isn't a strain in the fabric, stitching or the metal.

He is very happy with the chairs after much chair testing before getting the Commander chairs.

Best wishes Sam

The trouble is, I thought that when we bought the Dukdalfs that cost an arm and a leg. I absolutely love mine but they take up so much space because of the curve in them.   Do the Lafuma's pack up better?

We were away last weekend - I told himself to remember to pack the spare chairs as it was a race circuit weekend. Did he, no! I (as the lightest) spent the whole bleeding weekend sitting on the coldbox whilst others sat in my beautiful chair! The cheap umbrella folds are going back in the trailer as a permanent fixture!

Thanks Sam. I think that sort of shape would slide down the site of the trailer without to much trouble. He thinks another umbrella fold will be better.

Trouble is I'm going to struggle to get anywhere to see one soon. Might have to bite the bullet and just order one.
