After much deliberation, we decided to get the Outwell Camper Lux sleeping bags.

As I was placing an on-line order, I phoned the CS first to see if there would be an option to request a LH and a RH bag. I was told there would be an option to make a request. Sadly, there was not.

I placed the order and phoned as soon as I could to make the request and also to ask if the hoods zipped off as it states it can be used as a blanket. I was told that they didn't and that the bag couldn't be used that way.

This was a factor for us so I cancelled the order. I then found extensive product info on another site which said the zips do come off and it can be used as a blanket but in the meantime WildDays.com have increased the price of the bag.

I have emailed them to express my disappointment but they have not replied or acknowledged my email.

Really disappointed.

I don't really see why you feel the retailer failed you, except that they've increased the price of these bags whilst you've been deliberating about whether to buy these sleeping bags?

They haven't really given you poor advice, except to say you can specify left and right hand zips on their website when you found that wasn't possible?

You asked if the hoods zipped off when you rang to specify a left and a right hand zip, they confirmed they don't, you say you then cancelled on that basis? How is that poor service?

The hoods don't zip off (do they on any sleeping bag? Wouldn't you then have half a zip around your neck?) but they do undo (as on many other bags) so you can open it out and form a blanket (again, as on many/most other bags).

How have WildDay failed you, exactly? Sorry if I sound a bit snotty (and I have nothing to do with this retailer) but I genuinely don't see why you think the retailer has misled you. You asked specific questions (about zip-off hoods) and they answered you correctly, surely?

Maybe they could have been a bit more customer friendly and talked to you a bit to find out what it was you were after and what you had been led to believe about these bags versus other bags, but then again maybe you sounded like you were looking for something specific and didn't need any help and advice?

Hope you find a bargains somewhere else, if you still decide to go with this make and model of sleeping bag.

Okay, I was told I could specify LH and RH during order process - not the case (poor advice). I couldn't phone to check if both were available until Monday and as I'm classroom based it's very hard to make phonecalls, they could have sent 2 of the same..

I was told the hoods didn't zip off (perfectly possible) - they do.( poor advice)

I have emailed them - no response.(poor service).

Price did not increase whilst I was deliberating. It increased between giving wrong info and getting correct info.

I stand corrected, so apologise to you adandemsmom.

Never seen a sleeping bag with zip off hood and you're right, info regarding this does vary depending on which website you look at; I just had a nosey at the product description at Outdoormegastore, where it states:

'Other details include, a built-in pillow with zip-off hood...',

yet on Campingworld's website it just states:

'perfectly suitable for using at home as a conventional sleeping bag or as a blanket when you open the all round zip...'

If the hood does zip off and if the retailer told you it doesn't, then I do agree they should supply them at the pre-increase price, of course.

And all online retailers should respond to email queries it's only logical.

So, next time I'll keep my mouth shut until I'm more aware of the facts...

Sorry again!

We have the outwell lux sleeping bags and I absolutely love them! I can confirm that the hoods do infact zip off the sleeping bags, as we took ours off on our last camping trip and it did not impact on my comfort in any way.

Like you plan, we have one with a left and right zip so we can hook them together to make a double. We have not tried this yet though!!

I have been warm and comfortable in mine and like the fact that they are rectangular shaped as opposed to mummy bags so that I can move about more easily. The only real downside is their packed size, they are quite bulky and do take up more space than previous bags we have owned.

I get why you are disgruntled - basically they gave you wrong advice on the product causing you to cancel the order. Have you tried ringing them and explaining you only cancelled as they misinformed you and would they honour your original order price?

Tell you what though, I'd want a retailer to go and check these hoods before buying, since it's a bit odd that different retailers are saying different things in their online descriptions.

It's a bit like when Khyam introduced the Chatsworth TC (polycotton tent) some websites claimed it had a SIG. It doesn't.

Hi,

I am not associated with this retailer in anyway but I do buy from them as they are the only decently priced "camping store" within 150 miles of where I live.

I can say I have always received excellent service and they normally have an excellent product knowledge, considering the vast stock that they hold.

I can't think why they haven't emailed you back - but perhaps they are exceptionally busy and/or short staffed?
I know that won't make you feel any better, but wanted to share that I have only had great customer service.

p.s. "camping store" equates to a large warehouse, where you most likley need to know what you want before you go in, as you can't browse.. I suppose it'd be a bit like walking into the back store area of an Argos?!

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks everyone

erroutdoors - that's why I phoned them,I thought at the very least that they would have offered to check and get back to me. Instead I got a very abrupt 'no'. (apology accepted)

Pink Panther - think we'll still go for the bags, we can't see anything else we as much tbh.

fitz169g - thanks, glad to hear it's not all bad.

Have to say, I agree with adandemsmom.

Ordered a windbreak from WildDays last week, collected it from the depot yesterday and when I got home and checked it, it was the wrong one! Ordered via Amazon and by looking at their feedback, it seems this has happened a few times in the past...

I've e-mailed them, let's see how long they take to reply.

Hi, I wanted to add my experience with wildday recently. I placed an order last wed (4th) for my much searched for outwell tauri light. The money has been taken from my account but I have heard nothing nor received the light. I spoke to them today in their new guise as caravan accessories. The first time the person the phone was not very helpful and just said they would call me back this afternoon but after I heard nothing for a few hours I tried again. The second person was more helpful but I am still not reassured. He said that when they moved the websites etc they are not able to (yet) access any of the back end information from when they were wildday. Therefore at the moment they have no way of finding out what has happened to my order. He was sympathetic and gave me the impression he was trying to give good customer service but I am still not very impressed. He said if they cannot find anything by tomorrow morning they will refund me completely. That is especially disappointing as I can't find the light anywhere else. When paying £5.95 shipping I expect much much quicker service than this.

Hopefully their new setup will be better.

Hi, I spoke to wildday this morning and they can at last access my order. I was then very annoyed to be told that the light is out of stock so they will start the process of refunding me. They took my money 6 days ago as soon as I made the order. They were not so quick to tell me that they would not be able to supply the light.

I will definitely not be using them again in any guise.

Now to search for a new electric tent light!
