They are very good and providing you make sure the canister is properly fitted and not leaking gas before you ignite it, they are very safe.

The only problem I had with mine was that it wouldn't turn down low enough to fry something gently...a little too fierce. Also, when the canister is getting low the pressure drops and it takes ages to boil a kettle otherwise it boils fairly quickly.

You need to use it with a windbreak as well or the flames flutter around and are ineffective. The case stood on it's side makes a good windbreak.

We take one as an extra ring and find they are great.   Use them outside when we are doing a BBQ for heating beans for my son's jacket spud, and often use for boiling the kettle when sitting outside as it saves us going into the camper to make a cuppa.

I have used them when I have gone solo with the kids, and not wanted to take the big gas bottle I would need for the three ring cooker we have.

I take one with me in case I need a second stove on top of my Cadac Safari Chef HP.

I would advise choosing one that has good safety features, such as non-operational unless the pan rest is fitted properly, and the ability to dis-engage the canister when not in use etc...

We've used one for 3 years now, with no problems, but it died on us halfway though a holiday in Spain this year. We were unable to buy another one anywhere we looked in Spain or France, until we got to Calais, but then the gas cylinders weren't available either. They seemed to use mostly the piercable cartridges or the CV270/CV470 type.

We have bought a new one now, it should last another few years.

i have one that i have used a few years now, it has been fine, I never heard about the gas canister overheating i will have to watch for that in the future

Oh yeah, don't use the box as a table for the stove .... it melts

Yep...another thumbs up for them here..

Really handy little things..we've had  three for several years now.

Never had a problems with gas escaping etc..however I do use a small rectangle of heat resistant fibreboard to shield the canistor side,if I'm using our big frying pan.

and I would recommend using a windshield around them,as they do help speed up "boiling time"..

Edit: Just to add,I have read on here that some of the newer ones,aren't as well put together and are flimsier than they used to be...so just keep an eye out for a "sturdy" one...
