I would advise looking at the reviews from the fishing communities.

Considering carp fishermen/women often sleep under an open shelter overnight so that they can get to their rods should there be any signs of a fish, their sleeping bags must be up to the job to keep them warm.

My 2p, based on my limited knowledge about fishing.

If it is very cold, many Carp Fishermen are wearing several layers of clothing including their jacket & padded salopettes with an open sleeping bag on top or below them as the bulk of clothing is too much for them to get in & out of it.

If you are cold, then perhaps the easier thing to do is:- dress with more layers - use a hot water bottle - use EHU & keep a heater on - sleep off the floor with a camp bed or even better, a Carp Fishing bed - insulate more below you than on top of you - keep additional layers handy to add during the small hours when it is at its coldest!

The insulation below you is the most important & effective part of keeping warm!

but I have also noticed that the fishing equipment bags, are much bigger/wider than most normal camping 4/5 season bags, and lots of us don't like the restricted feel of ther narrow winter style bags. I also use a Nash Frostbite Enhancer topper, and have found that is enough for most non winter camping with no sleeping bag. It is often stated that the bags have to be narrow to heat up efficiently, well, I have had no problems with the cold, when using a king size duvet folded in half in the winter.

I sleep in a Fox ZZZ all year round under a brolly, no problem.

I would suggest you avoid the flecce lined ones such as the Trakker Big Snooze as they tend to grab hold of you when you turn over.

  Totally agree with Green Pesto, I am a carp angler,12months a year, If your in a tent ,use a heavy duty ground sheet!!! They make a BIG difference.I use a carpers 4 season bag , plus a thermal lined over blanket that is also showerproof ,so your protected against any condensation drips. Nothing worse than being cold and damp at night.No sleep ,,=No fun.
