Hello everyone from drizzly Manchester!

Any recommendations for the most compact sleeping bags? Weight is irrelevant, I just want to squash as much as possible into my car. Oh, and the most compact everything else, just in case! I only have the tent a 6 berth Outwell, which is fab and has braved many a downfall, but takes up all of my Citroen's boot. I plan to borrow everything else from our other camping friends once there, but we need to get more stuff anyway, so it would be interesting, and might be helpful to others, to know what the most compact of all the other accessories is too.

Thanks.

p.s. I should have added that I am looking for myself and my husband so possibly a double, (or not, if the blighter is snoring), and two for each of my kids age 3 and 6. We are all kick off the covers type of sleepers, so I don't think those all in one sleep body suit things would suit.  Or indeed anything too hot. It's just regular British/Irish summer camping we are doing, so we don't need extremes of warmth etc. We have successfully brought along duvets in the past, but it's just not possible this time around as we are packing for a full month away with our rellies as well as camping. I know, I know, should've got a roof box!

I'd spend the money on making more space, roof box or trailer etc and take the items that your comfortable with - ie quilt and nice pillows, pots and pans from home, you get the idea...

I know Gareth, but it's not going to happen this camping trip. Our car is out and about with my other half until the night before we go, i.e. next wednesday, and we are leaving at 7am, so it's not going to happen...

Down sleeping bags squash down much more for the same warmth value than most (any?) other filling materials. They are however, unfortunately the most expensive and difficult to wash properly.

My summer down sleeping bag is easily half the size of my kids bags packed (which are smaller unpacked in the first place as the kids are smaller than me!)

Hi, have you thought about using duvets and sticking them in the vacumn type bags.  I haven't tried them yet, but was thinking of using them for our fleece blankets and pillows next week.

I would just lay them out flat, and load everything else on top. If rolled up. then any squashy item becomes a bulky item, if you see what I mean. I know others have posted that they sit on them on the back seat etc.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
