I have been wrestling with getting the gas hose onto the Campingaz chef for the last 20 minutes. I a presuming the hose doesn't have to cover the whole of the metal thread, because it it does, there is obviously a knack to doing this that i don't have!!!
Also, once I have got the hose on, can I leave it attached to transport it, as I can face trying to re-attach it once we get there
The easiest way to do it is to place the end of the rubber tubing in a cup of boiling water for a minute or so, this should make it pliable enough to put onto the metal tube. Don't forget to put a hose clip on the rubber first, let the rubber cool down and then tighten up the hose clip. Now put a few drops of washing up liquid in a little water, attach the gas cylinder and put the washing liquid mix around both connections. Turn the gas on and watch for bubbles around the connections, now try turning the stove on and lighting a burner, again check the connections for bubbles, if there aren't any great, no leaks job done.
You don't have to disconnect the tubing except to erplace it in approx 3yrs.

Rubypenny, i've just bought one today and have had exactly the same problem so thanks for the post and thanks to others for the advice.
I was a bit disappointed when reading the instructions that it says that you can't have the grill on at the same time as the hob. Not sure why this is and not sure if it is being over cautious. Does anyone have one and use both at the same time? I would like to be able to do my toast and beans at the same time!

Just asked OH, apparently we have used both at the same time but it takes absolutely ages for the toast to do!

You physically can use both at the same time, but if you're only using a small butane bottle (as most people do), the offtake is too great for the cylinder.
The Calor site recommends a maximum offtake of 5kW for a 4.5kg butane bottle.
Running both rings and grill at full power is 5.9kW, so more than recommended.
It's not dangerous. All that happens is the cylinder cools too quickly (they get cold as the gas is drawn off) and the remaining gas in the bottle can't vaporise, so you get less gas coming out of the cylinder and the power output goes down as a result.
(Hence why the post above said the grill took ages)

Thanks hennipenni.....I also bought an electric hook up today so will probably just pack a toaster as well!
That's what we normally do, though next week we go non-electric!! We got a toaster from Tesco for £5 which we use just for camping.
