We used to take a big Camping Gaz 2-burner and grill set-up complete with stand, big gas canister and kitchen tent but it was just too much weight and hassle to set up. Also, we thought about what we actually did when camping - if the weather was good, we invariably had a barbeque - if bad, we went to the pub to eat.
Now we take a single burner remote gas stove (Primus) with a 250g cartridge. This is fine for cooking breakfast and making drinks and is much smaller and lighter. For pots, I have an MSR cookset that has 2 pots and a small frying pan that all nest together. I also take a lightweight frying pan and a kettle, both by Primus, with folding handles, that take up very little room. In fact, our entire camp kitchen (stove, gas, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, cutlery,water containers etc) now fits into one plastic storage box.
