I was thinking it would be really nice to have a ground anchor one could screw into the soil which was in some way lockable so as to make it's removal much harder (obviously a spade would sort it).
The thinking was it would act as a deterrent to the would be grab and run thief for things like bags, laptops, stoves and such.
Anyone?

I would rather go to sites with good security measures and to lock any valuables in the car than to fiddle about with them to be honest!

Have heard a trick of using two screw in dog anchors side by side, and running a bike cable lock or chain through both, which effectively makes it impossible to unscrew either. However, I've yet to see a dog anchor with a solid "eye" at the top - they all seem to be triangular with a gap in the triangle, if you see what I mean. Like this:
------------- * You never know where you're going 'til you get there...
I've been using one of the dog tethers(as in viggo's photo) to secure stuff for a few years..especially at festivals(and some campsites!).
I welded up the join in the top loop on ours',as that is more substantial than the lower eye(..I also cut 6" or so out of the straight section while I was at it, to make it more compact)...and I just loop the cable lock through in such a way that there is very little slack and the only way to "unscrew" it,would be to walk around in circles, carrying everything that locked up,with you..
I suppose two,set a distance apart would be better..but at the end of it all,it's only really to stop folk from just snatching stuff away(...chairs,stove etc)
(..I don't think I'd be leaving a laptop in a tent/awning in the first place though..)
I suppose you could always incorporate a cable lock which has an inbuilt alarm?..but that would be a pain,if you kept setting it off when your coming in late from the pub!
at pepe63 good idea on the shortening thing. I would only have the laptop in the tent over night - when out and about it is locked into the car (lock through loading loop things in boot).
But you are exactly right - it's more about providing some tethering that stops a casual pick up and run kinda muppet

One thing I would add...and that is that on some occasions I have been unable to screw the tether into some pitches/fields..Instead of screwing itself in,all it did was drag out a core of stoney earth!
In these cases,a couple of decent steel spikes(3/8-1/2" dia)each with an eye welded on,just driven in at angles, would have been the answer..
I have a long bit of plastic coated steel cable, which i loop though the gas bottle, then into the tent and around the cooker and fridge. I have also passed it underneath the tent to the other side and locked the bike rack to it.
It's not going to stop the determined thief, but they would need bolt cutters or a hack saw to get though it.
Please don't use electronic alarms, you're much more likely to set them off yourself in error on a daily basis and naff off your neighbours!
I wouldn't worry unduly on a normal campsite. On some motorsport sites we chain together the fridge and gas bottle to a dog spike. It won't stop anyone but it will slow them down.
If we take bikes we chain them to whatever we can (fridge/gas bottle if nothing solid) and add in a couple of saucepans/lids to make a bit of a noise if someone tries to walk off with the lot!
