So, I'm a complete novice when it comes to camping & equipment & wanted to check something before attempting to light the stove!
I'm trying to attach the orange gas piping to the cooker, but can't get it to go any further than the 1st ridge on the metal attachment on the side of the cooker. Should it be forced on further all the way on???
I think this exact topic was posted a few days ago. It doesn't need to go all the way to the 90 degree bend, but it should go on about 2/3 of the way. Softening the gas hose in boiling water helps immensely.
You want it over all the ridges if you can. As said above just put some boiling water in a cup and soak the end of the pipe for a few seconds, it'll then slip on easily.
One thing if you're doing this, let the pipe cool down for a while before you put tighten the Jubilee Clip* up otherwise it's liable to cut into the pipe. This is usually the point at which you then take the pipe off again because you forgot to slide the clip on ready.
yes it should be all the way on and secured with a jubliee clip
the hot water will work well to get it on but they are just as difficult to get off I have now fitted my stoves with quick release couplings and they are great as my stove wont go in the bag with the hose and regulator still fitted
I've got a Campingaz Camping Chef and there's no way you can get the hose over all the ridges. The diameter at it's thickest is a fair bit wider than the external diameter of the hose!
Thanks all, managed to get it hooked up & tested it (washing up liquid method) earlier tonight. Hot water tip did the trick! Didn't manage to get the pipe all the way on as Rockford said there's no way you can force it all the way on! All on & secured with the clips. Seemed a shame to put it all away again!
Looking forward to our first camping trip over the Aug bank hol. Have another 1 nighter in September with friends too. Now busy looking for a nice site on Isle of Wight for next year.
Sitting in the tent right now on our last night's testing in the back garden with 5 year old daughter asleep in the bedroom. Other half in the house thinking I'm bonkers!!
Useful if you get a spare nozzle or two - i keep the body bit of the coupling on the cylinder hose and then you can clip whichever appliance you want to use into it. easy :)
Although this is an old thread it has helped me today.
A couple of points...
The orange gas pipe/tube is not expected to go all the way up the inlet pipe of the cooker; the inlet pipe is designed to accommodate a number of different country' legislations, and the pipe will be supplied accordingly. In the UK it is only necessary to get the pipe over three or so notches. Campinggaz now include a schematic to this effect in their instructions - something which I missed.
The website of the firm supplying the quick release coupling (mentioned above) don't have 'standard postage' as an option on their check-out page. You risk therefore paying £20+ for a coupling costing 1/3rd of that price. The solution: call the company direct.
I suppose also worth pointing out is that you don't need to use the hard high pressure orange pipe between regulator & stove. If the shop stocks it get some black plastic low pressure lpg hose, still needs warming to go on but much easier to use.
