I saw an Eclipse solar shed light in B&Q the other day for about £12 and was thinking of hooking one or more up in the Dandy for a bit of background evening lighting. Has anyone used one or similar, and if so is it worth it?
Also, we need to get new folding chairs for the children, but all I seem to find are very small ones or adult size. If anyone knows of some reasonable priced lightweight chairs suitable for children aged 8-12 approx I would be very grateful.
I brought one of those lights for my shed & it's rubbish all the solar panel is fit for is to charge up the batteries. You'd be better off using a decent 12 volt led light or strip light like I use in my awning. This is similar to what I use.
Tich, sorry to hear yours doesn't work well, have you got a big shed? The b&q ones seem to be reduced to just over a tenner now so I might give it a go if I stumble upon the shop this weekend. I'll look at the other option too, thanks for that.
We'll probably go for small adult chairs I guess HEJC72, should get to Decathlon tomorrow so hopefully they'll have something suitable. I'm a Helen too.
I've bought a set of 6 LED decking lights from Wickes. They come with a transformer to run them off the mains. Inspection showed that it would also be possible to run them off 12V supply without the mains adapter. So I fitted the type of connector that is used for radio control cars etc, and run them off a 12V 3700mAH battery pack (as used in radio control cars and boats). The fully charged pack runs the lights for night after night with no charging. Had them on all night for 3 nights in a row and battery pack still almost fully charged. When the battery pack eventually needs recharging I use a charger for radio control car batteries that runs off 12V and so I can charge the battery pack from my car, or without the charger I can just connect the battery to my 12V 20W rollable solar panel that I use for all sorts of other stuff. Sorted!
we picked up 2 hi-gear chairs from go-outdoors - were £8 for 2, they are sold as adult chairs but are really only suitable for kids i reckon - just about right size for my 8 and 12 year olds

Blimey Jo Jo, that's good value! We did get to decathlon today and got 2 for about £20, but son was very happy 'cos there was orange trim on them [his favourite colour!] So we didn't get such a good bargain, but we were well undercharged in ikea so it balanced out!
There just happened to be a B&Q opposite, so I popped in and got the shed light, time will tell if it's any good I guess. We've got battery lanterns too and a couple of solar marker lights.
PeteMillis, this brunette can have her blonde moments, so I reckon I'll have to run that past my OH, I'd definitely like to try something like that if we stick with Dandying!
Wilkinosn have a LED lantern reduced to £12. Runs off interenal recharagble batteries (via car socket), mains (via car lead if you have adpater), AAA batteries or wind up.
As for solar lighting, we used to take a couple of garden lanterns with us and the kids used to use them to get ready for bed etc (until we got a battery latern)
------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!
