Give it a good shake. If it feels heavy and there's the sound of a lot of liquid sloooshing around, there's gas in there. If you're not sure and you're worried, just get a refill. Or you could check with the campsite to see if they sell gas refills? Or go to your local recycling place, see if they've got any empties in the gas bottle cage, smile sweetly and scrounge an empty (not forgetting the traditional fiver as thanks.) The easiest way not to run out of gas is to carry a spare full one after all.
