After arriving at the campsite on Saturday, I found I had left the poles for my tent at home (over 200 miles away). So I went and bought a tent from the nearest shop possible and ended up buying a Gelert Atlantis 5. Its a nice looking tent, but I'm so so disappointed with the build quality and strength of the tent. I feel I have wasted my £130 on something which is not worth the money. I took it out of the bag earlier today to put it up and dry it out, to find that one of the corners of the groundsheet where the strap is connected, is ripped, leaving half the strap broken off. I am so gutted I bought this tent to be honest. I am thinking of getting in touch with Gelert themselves and seeing what they have to say about it. What do you guys think?
Sadly, your now 200 miles away from the supplier, but get in touch with them, and see if you can get a refund, as it's faulty. Then courier it back to them.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
You could always phone the retailer I suppose. Never hurts to ask. But since you used the tent they'll probably be concerned that you did the damage yourself. (Hand on heart...is it a possibility?) They will probably be willing to send it back to Gelert for testing though, as long as it's returned to them clean and dry. Gelert are actually quite a decent quality manufacturer and have good customer service so I think the least you'll be offered is a free repair, or a new groundsheet section.
TBH though if it's just a groundsheet strap I'd mend it myself. I've owned one Gelert tent (Cadiz 5+2) and never had any problems with build quality. The only reason I don't still have it is that I changed to a tent with a better interior layout for us. I part exchanged the Cadiz with a friend when I bought her trailer tent and as far as I know it's still going strong at six or so years old.
We've still got a Cadiz 5,which we've had for about 5-6years and that has survived loads of outings, many of them being festivals(..with "boisterous" festival goers, tripping on the guylines and bouncying off the flysheet at 4 in the morning..!)
..Although it is certainly worth a phone call to the supplier and/or Gelert,if it is just down to a couple of inches of missed stitching, then maybe it'd be easier just to look at fixing it yourself..maybe using something like Clingons if need be..?
