Freeview? Pah! Can't imagine listening to the racket of Spongebob Squarepants in the background.....kids or not

Seriously though....with the freeview sticks do you just connect a TV aerial? I reckon your reception should be ok if you point antenna west toward the Belmont transmitter - whopping great big tall tower that one it - it was385 metres high (1270 feet) and at one point was the tallest structure in the UK - now reduced to 351 metres as part of the digital switchover. For comparison, Britain's tallest building - Canary Wharf - is a measly 244 metres.

If you'd love to read more exciting facts about the Belmont tower, and find out how to get best reception from it, read here http://www.aerialsandtv.com/belmonttx.html

I bought one off ebay recently Here and I am extremely pleased with it. I have not really favoured cheap USB PVR's but this one attached to our main tv antenna is very good. I will try it when we are next in Cornwall to see how good it is in a digital only area.

Just to add. I run windows 7 on my laptop and the supplied software is ok with the dongle but it runs much better in Windows media Centre and has a full 8 day EPG.

Due to the technical constraints of Terrestrial Digital transmissions (Freeview), reception at campsites locations is worse than what Analogue Terrestrial transmissions used to be, unless the site is close to a transmitter that is, fact is for reliable Digital TV reception whilst camping the only practical solution is Satellite, either STB or plug in device for your laptop, oh and a Dish of course. hope that helps.

Sorry, completely off topic here, just wondered, Nigel, what you think of Gwithian Farm, we're booking to go there for our main hol next year and I see you've been quite a bit ! Would really appreciate your opinion on the place, we're hoping the 10 min walk to the beach is genuine and not just for speed walkers !

Hi MairiJ, yes we use Gwithian a lot as we have relatives in Hayle. Its a good site with quality showers/toilet facilities. Good pub opposite, fish & chips van visits the site as does a curry. You can get down to the beach in 10 minutes if you know the shortest route accross the dunes and down the wooden steps opposite Peters point. Otherwise its more like 15-20 mins onto Gwithian carpark but its a nice walk through the sand dunes.

Francais, digital signal in South West is very good. You could probably get a freeview signal on a coat hanger if you tried. The Redruth transmitter works a treat.

Thanks for that Nigel.
Fact is I only take my TV kit when we go for our main fortnights camps in Southern France, so for us the only option is satellite for UK progs, we take a 80cm Dish, which works fine anywhere in France.

Andy.
