I found what i think is an alko hitchlock in the caravan . I have a key for it, but cant see how it works .
Its just one piece of metal, a barrel for the key, but when I turn the key nothing seems to move . It seems there is something missing , but what ?
sorry this sounds a bit vague, it looks a bit like this one
Thanks Bob, just had closer look at it, I think maybe the lock is supposed to push in when locking, this one doesn't , its seized up , the black plastic flap looks like it should cover the lock when closed , but the barrel is sticking out , so the plastic cover cant move. so may not be anythng mising ?
Any idea what else I could try other than wd40 to loosen it?
Does not sound like anything missing only possibly seized. You should be able to insert key, push the barrel, turn the key and lock, then slide the plastic cover over the barrel after removing the key. You can do this without it being insitu on the hitch. I would give it a go with the WD40.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
They are a nice compact unit, but it always seems to take me ages to get it in the right position to lock. (It probably takes me longer to put it on that it would take a potential thief to remove it!) You also need a red ball to fit under the hitch (where the towball normally goes when towing).
I have one of these and it is just a bit awkward to lock, you are right, the barrel does push in, you need to wiggle the unit abit to get it in the right place then hey presto, the barrel will go in.
