Is it just me who finds that most sites just pay lip service to tenters who want hookup? So far each time we have camped with hookup we have been put with the caravans (although we haven't been the only ones). Why can't they have an area for tents with hookup?
Sometimes we feel that caravans are given more priority over tents, anyone else feel the same or is it just us? Sorry just realised this is in the wrong forum.
I agree that on many sites we have been put amongst the caravans because that is where the hok up points are.
It has not been true on all sites but generally seems to be the situation.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
I suppose the site knows how many tent campers make use of electrics and I am sure that would influence whether they installed electric points in the tent area. On the otherhand they may have relatively few request for electrics and feel that for the number they have its more convenient to put those tents on pitches where the electrics are now. Another issue is that some sites charge less for tents than caravans so to provide extra facilities would likely mean an increase in site fees.

A very valid point and one I admit has never crossed my mind, the last few times we've camped we had hookup but now seriously thinking of camping without now.

I hate being put amongst the caravans, all I can say is give your business to campsites that make more effort with their tent areas.
I can use my EHU but recently I've taken to not using it so I have more freedom to choose a nice pitch within the site. Sometimes EHU can be restricting, and I really hate being the only tenter amongst the caravans.
Yes Victoria we have come to the same conclusion the thing is that we have become so used to using hookup it feels a little daunting to go real campimg as my daughters would say lol, so, could anyone please give advice on the best equipment (all that we have is geared for hookup except the stove) such as lighting, heating, cooking stove, how to keep things cool etc.
I actually quite like being pitched with the caravans - I find the vanners very friendly and chatty and have had several ask if they can look inside my tent. It also means I can pitch next to my friends when they go away in their vans and I'm in a tent.
I do not see why it is an issue to pitch my tent amongst the caravans, as I have done so frequently.

We generally haven't found this, it tends to be folding campers and other trailer tents on grass with electric, but thats mostly C&CC where there are plenty of hardstandings. Thats another topic altogether...
We can cope perfectly well without EHU, but find we spend as much on freezing our ice packs as we do on the hook up, so we might as well have the light and chargers as well. Since the cooler blew up on the day we were leaving we had to pay both this trip, not a happy camper!!

I used to have a caravan and found that caravans were more often than not 'parked' in a regimented fashion like a supermarket car park with no room for tents in between. This was one of my annoyances when my view was more often than not the caravan next door or opposite.
I have to say that with a tent, even when on EHU, I have never been trapped between two caravans although occasionally there have been caravans in the same field. Certainly the campsites I have been to seem to cater well for tents...perhaps that is because I tend to shy away from the regimented campsites.
