Hi there, we have booked into a site that says it only has 10amp electric hookup, we usually run a travel kettle, van fridge, portable tv and if it is really cold a 400w halogen heater, my query is if I have say the tv and fridge on, would I be able to plug in the heater without tripping the electric?
To calculate power, multiply the voltage by the current (W=V x A)
So with a 10A supply, you have a maximum of 2400W to play with. You need to add all your items wattage to get a total then see if it's less than 2400, and with a little leeway, find out what you can and can't put on at the same time.
I'd hazard a guess and say you're probably gonna be ok as long as it is a low-wattage travel kettle and not a normal domestic one.
Thanks so much for the quick response, the kettle is only a little travel kettle, and I would not use it at the same time as the heater anyway, just the tv and the fridge
A full-size domestic electric kettle is usually rated between 2,500 and 3,000 Watts but your travel kettle is likely to draw rather less. My advice would be to run the other things you've listed but just avoid using the kettle and the halogen heater at the same time.
We go away this weekend for the first time in our trailer I have had electric fitted the camp is 10 amp will I be OK with a small tv and a plug in aireal
Thanks
Assuming you have a mains hookup fitted ( a blue plug on an orange lead) then Yes, 10 amp 240v gives you 2400W.
A small TV is about 30W
An active aerial is about 5W
You really do have a good margin of safety on that one!
Hi
Will I be OK with a 12v fridge small tv and a plug in aireal on 10amp but I want to plug a heater in as it's going a bit cold the heater is 400/800 watts
Thanks
Take a look at this page. There is a watts to amps conversion chart.
A 10 amp campsite supply will allow you to use appliances up to a total of 2300 watts at the same time. Whatever you use, look for the label on it which will tell you what watts it is. If you want to use more than one item at a time add together the watts and make sure the total doesn't exceed 2300 watts.
