right we just got home from a long week end at stowford farm meadows, and lots of caravans and a few bigger tents had long flag poles up with flags etc. i know wher to get the poles from, but what i whould like to know is how do you hold your flag pole up with out haveing a jokey wheel or the likes to tie it to!! we use a trailer but i dont realy want to put a jockey wheel on it.
hi if you got a trailer ,screw a couple of pipe clips with self tappers in to the frame work of it, if not take a 2ft piece of scaffold tube and brey it in to ground to put bottom of flag pole
We use(or did do) a 3ft length of 1/2" steel bar, just staked into the ground, then the fibreglass poles just slip over it.Mounting on a spike also lets the pole rotate more freely, which does help a little in stopping your flag/spinner from just tangling around the pole..
We used to use a flag when we" tented" a festivals but after having the whole thing pinched by kids one morning,I haven't bothered since...
We got a telescopic pole and a St Andrews flag windsock this year, great for helping the children find their way back to the tent, we use a ground spike as suggested above, had no problems with it. The pole and spike came from the same place, Sky Blue Leisure I think it was.

We got one from skyblue i think it is on ebay base cracked before we even got to use it, not a clue how as it was on top of everything so very flimsy. However it was windy and we put it up over a 1m ground spike with the Derbyshire flag on, neighbours ones bloke ours stood up to it even with already being cracked. Cable ties are ace for securing the bungees to it then slide off with a bit of manhandling when your packing up.
Now to find a better one.

To avoid crakcking at the base, it's worth wrapping gaffer tape around it, and putting a cable tie over the top. Remember, all these poles are only roach fishing poles.....not really flag poles....and as such the base part wouldn't be expected to be subject to much force.
For mounting.....a 1 metre length of reinforcing bar just hammered a bit into the ground work. Or just lash it to your trailer with rope and good knots.
