We tried UFO lights for the first time this year and I too hate the cold blue light. Also, I have quite poor vision and find that the UFOs don't give off enough light. We returned to our gas lantern with it's lovely warm orange glow.

As we have little ones that could easily knock over the gas lantern, we are now looking for a good rechargeable / battery lantern for our autumn trips.

If you find anything please let me know. I recently brought a couple of the ufo lights and unfortunately was not that impressed with them and i really dont want to use gas lanterns.

We've got a hanging strip light that runs off a battery and it's brilliant. Got ours from Lidl years ago but they're available in camping shops.
We also have a gas lamp which is lovely (but never use it around kids), one of those battery operated lantern things which gives off a fair light and a smallish ufo light. I agree that the light from the UFO isn't too great, but it's good for reading in bed!

UFO lights are good for background lighting and cost £1 each at Poundland and last ages. Headlights - the ones on elastic that you wear round your head - are cheap and excellent for reading. Batteries last for ages with both of these. I also have a light which runs from the car battery.

Don't get me wrong I have a couple of UFO lights, great for quick emergency and easy to slip into the drawer, but as main lighting, for me they're a no no.

A few weeks ago we were pitched across from a couple in a TT who put 9 or 10 solar lights out every morning. As dusk came they took the lights into the awning and arranged them around the edge. I can't comment on how efficient they where but they seemed to work for them.

That could have been me, lol!

We have loads of solar lights (pound shop jobbies) that we just bung outside in the morning, once dusk comes and they start shining we put them at the base of guy lines, tent/windbreak corners etc to stop accidents and when we go into bed we take them inside and place around the bedroom/living area, on tables...anywhere! They are brilliant, don't need a lot of sun to charge up, last all night AND we aren't wasting a fortune on batteries!

We also use LED headlamps (pound shop again!) which I could not be without, wind-up lamp, gas lamp and wind-up/solar powered radio.

Never camped with EHU and am determined never to have to, I love going 'back to basics', lol!

We had  solar lights outrside and never thought of bringinging them into the tent... great idea!

Like the sound of the strip light. Really could do with something that gives of a reasonable amount of light.

we have a standard gas lamp (in my gallery) the good thing is you can put tent pegs through its base to hold it steady its very well built for its age.
we have electric in the awning but on a warm summer night we use it outside to illuminate our outside table
Its only 80 watts but i expect with a bit of ingenuity a brighter lamp could replace the gas one

The pound lanterns from poundland are fantastic.  We have four of them, 3 get dangled from the roof of the tent and we carry one around with us.  My partner is a police officer and we took his maglight with us on our last trip and that really lit up the tent.
