Yes you can, but with all the losses in the system you will take more out that you put in.
Even if the battery is not conected to the caravan in anyway.....ie.....sit it in the boot off my car on an inverter to charge it with the engine running?
I agree with Scamp. The Honda EU10 and 20 are amongst the best and quietest on the market. If I wanted one I would go for one of these. I keep weighing up whether a genny or solar panel is best for keeping things topped up on rallies or other non ehu sites
The answer lies in how many amp hours do you need, if it fairly low and you dont mind spending (serious) money the solar is the way to go, you wont be able to totally rely on it year round but generally it will do.
Here is a site showing what mean this set up "should" produce 120 watts on an overcst day they are producing 51w x by about 6 hours would give you 300watts to play with or 25 amp hours at 12v and you would not get much change out of £1600 for that set up.
If you travel regularly for touring 1 to 2 hours a day use a smart regulator this can put more into a battery bank in 1 hour than a whole day of solar.
Enough batteries onboard and one day a week on an hook up site is all thats needed.
A genny with a good 3-4 stage charger means an hour of genny per day beats the solar.
The are loads of answers whats needed is a properly phrased question.
