Hi
We have just been away and found a new way to keep warm at night we used laminate floor underlay
We put some underneath the kids airbed and a layer on top of the airbed before adding fitted sheet and duvets
On ours we put some under the airbed then a layer on top added the other airbed making it double thickness and slept under a normal duvet and was so warm there was no need for clothes at all, bloomin brill
We dont have a carpet yet and the S.I.G is very cold laid some underlay down out side the pods and bingo toasty warm feet it is so thin its so easy to take with you and throw it away after your trip and at £7 a roll not a bad price
heres a picture
Great idea! I usually use foam mats but recently my parents came too and I didn't have enough mats to put under everyones airbeds.
After night one which they suffered I went to the local shop and got some large cardboard boxes. Opened out under each airbed they made the world of difference, brilliant emergency insulation!
It certainly solves the problem of SIM's being warmer but not as comfy as airbeds. Now you can have the best of both worlds, warmth and a super comfy bed for the week.
The insulation properties of stock foam are really good as its closed cell construction and I can tell you from experience that it really works well in the winter too when the ground is <0 C deg.
I don't tend to throw mine away each year though, I edge it with 75mm wide tape to stop the edges ripping, it makes it so much more durable.

is this the cheap foam underlay, just been looking and you can get various different types at different prices?
nope its the cheap thin stuff just think how much warmer you would be with the thicker stuff
the uprated about 3 mm sound deadening high density foam that comes from B and Q folded is very insular as well and probably far better than that thin fleece stuff , ive got it as a liner round my flask inside its pvc case and its very good.
ive got two of them rolls of shiny aluminium coated foam that i shove under the airbed however i also shove a layer top and bottom of that non slip stuff in too to stop mattress slip on mild slopes etc
Can't see the point of a layer under an airbed as it gets cold from the air around it - although it might help avoid a puncture. Its more important to place the barrier between the airbed and yourself. We use a fleecy mattress cover from Wilkos for this - nice and cosy with the sleeping bag and acts as a sheet too...
