Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good rectangular 3 Season Sleeping Bag, I was considering the Snugpak Adventurer until I found a review saying really only a summer bag.

I've tried an Adventurer 200 but it's just not warm enough for those colder nights and do have a 3 season Mummy bag but really don't find the mummy bags comfortable.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

If you aren't short of space, I can highly recommend the Outwell Camper Lux - it's a 3-4 season, extreme temp of -18 C. It is bulky, I struggle to get it back in it's bag, but it's toasty and very roomy! I got it in the Go Outdoors sale but they're not showing online anymore.

Just to give you more options. I also dislike mummy sleeping bags but one shop introduced me to the North Face expander panel. It zips in to any of their bags and adds about 10 inches to the circumference.

It makes a huge difference and a constricting mummy bag becomes a spacious and lovely place to be!

I have it on the Kilo bag which is just about 3 season and I love it

Had saved that one to favourites and was thinking about it, the only thing that stopped me is the Eurohike Adventurer 200 we have gives a temperature to -8

http://www.millets.co.uk/camping/sleeping-equipment/product/091294.html

But the Vango says down to -2 so I didn't think it'd b any warmer ?????

I've just edited as I 've realised they do the Nitestar as a 300 or 450, anybody know if the 450's are way too hot in the summer ??

Try this if you liked the snugpak bags SNUGPAK Softie Chrysalis Xpedition Sleeping Bag
comes with a built in expander panel, at 6'2" I am a big man and can turn around in this bag. I previously did not like mummy bags because I had only ever tried a cheap one, these are brilliant. Super warm and made in the UK

I can recommend the Argos 500gsm rectangular bag. Very warm and snuggly, I think it is about £30ish.

Like you I was looking for a square 3 season bag a couple of years back. It was a choice between vango nitestar and coleman comfort. Loads of people on here have the nitestar. One person had one of each and said they were equal but slightly preferred the coleman comfort because of the brushed cotton inside - if you feel it it's much softer than the nitestar. Went for the Coleman comfort bags in the end and they have been brilliant. you can get them back in the bag easily. The zips don't get stuck. and they're very warm.

We too have the Coleman Comfort sleeping bags - think they're the 235's.  They are 3 season, and a comfort temp of -0 degrees C down to -6.  I got them after reading the reviews.  We are virgin campers, but knew I couldn't stand the restrictive mummy bags after borrowing my daughter's a couple of years ago.

The Coleman's are actually quite big, and we got four, but that is the only downside as we were all snug as bugs in rugs a couple of weekends ago on our first camping trip, whilst our friends in the next tent were cold in the night.  The Colemans come in left and right handed zips too so we are able to make a double.

We are very happy with ours, but shop around as I got them for a bargain £20 each and some websites list them at £40 or more.

Please excuse me for my ignorance but the difference between a 200, 300 and 450, I'm guessing but is that the warmth like different tog values for quilts ??

I got the Mummy bag I have out of the loft and It's a eurohike 300 and that's been warm enough so I guess that any other 300 by a well know make should cut it.

2 recommendations for the Coleman becomes quite tempting but they're rated at 235 and a few others at 300 / 450 ???

The Coleman 300 has a comfort of +6 and limit of +1, so not as warm as the 250.  The 450 seems to have the same temp ratings as the 235, but the 450 seems to be a bit more expensive.

I'm guessing the reason could be the 450 is more compact when rolled up, but someone will correct me (please) if I'm wrong

another vote for camper lux. so warm and can be unzipped and used as quilt or if left and a right bought you can zip them together to make a double

they are bulky but if you fold in half length wise.                                                then fold the hood to just over the middle                                                          then the other end to the middle                                                                      then fold all in half and slide the bag underneath,                                                 zip one side up then the other and then the top.

Those expander panels are genius! All the tent manufacturers should offer them, I bet they'd sell like hot cakes to people who really dislike the restrictions of a sleeping bag (me!).
