Whilst in the land of the cuckoo clock and the equilateral chocolate treat I bought myself a new Swiss army knife, or army knife as they call them over there.

I went for the forrester one handed version, pictured below

The knife features

large locking blade with an extended lug so that it can be opened one handed, blade has both serrated and plain cutting edges
saw
bottle opener/large flat blade screwdriver/wire stripper/wire bender
can opener/small flat blade screwdriver
punch/reamer
corkscrew
lanyard ring

used the knife quite a bit while camping, the large blade and saw for cutting wood for kindling. Initially found the serrated edge a bit weird for this but soon got the hang of it. The knife handle is made of 2 materials to make the grip firmer which I quite liked for this type of job. Used both bottle and can openers when cooking and of course the corkscrew has had quite a lot of use. Used it in the garden quite a few times since returning home, the saw made light work of some tree limbs that I was removing (~1 inch diameter).

All round quite a good knife and pleased with it, lost my last SAK in/around Loch Lomond but I have a chain with belt clip on this one so hopefully it will not suffer a similar fate.

I found my old knife lurking in the bathroom cabinet (why???) just the other day.

I bought it in Switzerland many years ago when I was a Ranger Guide, then you could get your name engraved on the handle, of course it's my maiden name.

It's still looks good and all the bits work! A saw would be a useful addition...

I recently bought a similar Victorinox knife and am very pleased with it. I could have gone for the Victorinox Trailmaster One hand Version, but the standard Trailmaster (Trekker, as known in the US) was that little bit cheaper, so went for that one...
