After agonising at length over whether to go for a Cadac or a Cobb, I've just ordered a Weber 'Go Anywhere' instead.

http://www.garden4less.co.uk/weber-go-anywhere-bbq-grill.asp

Having a Campingaz Chef (2 burners & grill) plus a seperate burner, it just seemed too extravegant & superfluous to spend a further £125+ on more cooking kit.

I coudn't find many reviews, & wondered if anyone here used this model and was able to comment on its performance & longevity?

There are lots of Weber go anywhere fans on here!

We've had ours for five or six years and it's still going strong. It's very robust and well built.

In the beginning I was concerned that it wasn't big enough but in reality you can fit a lot on it.

You need to experiment with the amount of charcoal you put in it, we use the self lighting bags but we struggled this year as Costco increased the size of their bags and the BBQ was much too hot as there was too much charcoal in it.   We now take some of the coals out and it performs much better.

It's a good choice of BBQ - enjoy it!

I had my Go Anywhere BBQ years before I bought my Cadac Safari Chef HP, and take both to go camping, plus a couple of single stoves, just in case I find myself entertaining a large group of people unexpectedly.

It is a great BBQ, and IMHO, Weber makes the best charcoal BBQs, and I have an One-touch platinum in the garden at home, and an One-touch Silver at my previous home.

The fold-away legs are brilliant. However, I advise putting it on bricks to prop it up further from the ground to minimise the risk of scorching the grass. Or drench the grass first with water, a trick taught to me by my late partner.

The only issue I have with the Go Anywhere is that it is too small to have a cooling rack. I get round this by having hot coals at one end and a cool zone at the other. This way, I can keep warm the cooked food at one end, and use the middle for those requiring slow cooking, while the hot end will be used for flash cooking.

You will not be disappointed with the Go Anywhere BBQ IMHO, enjoy!

...oh...I shouldn't really say but we've got a CADAC as well - so don't expect your CADAC lusting to end!

(...oh and I quite like the look of the Cobb as well because the Hairy Bikers use one!)

Yep we have the Weber, small but excellent BBQ. We had the same problem with self lighting bags, the Weber was very hot all around, I sit it on my kitchen stand (aluminium top) it melted it. So whilst visiting the local DIY (B&Q) we found a floor tile 12"X12" free to a good home which works perfectly under the Weber.

Ooo, be warned about the handles liable to melt by the fire if it is very blowy. Just put the lid back on slightly ajarred should help.

When I use mind on an aluminium roll up table, I too would put a piece of wood under it to stop the plastic bits from melting.

Cheers for the advice.

I've just treated myself to this book, which gives a lot of mouth-watering recipes as well as detailed info for the novice (like me) on using a bbq correctly...

...so we won't have to exist solely on spam & beans.
