I returned the usb dongle I bought as it was rubbish and the laptop chewed through our battery at a huge rate.

I've tried indoor aerials previously and never found any of them to be any good, plus they all seem to need to be powered.

We went to an ordinary external aerial which we stick on a pole and clamp to the traile, it picks up much better signal and doesn't require electricity.

i do the same as you, i use a usb dongle with a laptop as it means ive got one peice of kit to keep the kids entertained if the weather is bad, dvd-games-tv-radio-music although personally we very rarely use it as i dont like tv and even though the mrs is a tv fan at home she doesent like it when we are camping.. lol.. anyway thats all besides the point, as with all digi tv's you need an proper aerial on a mast, i picked up a kit from on ebay, 3mtr pole, jockey wheel clamp, and aerial withe the cable and fittings for about £30, also a signal meter is a good £10 investment

having just re-read you post, if your tenting i guess you would need some kind of spike to put in the ground to put the pole in as youve go no jockey wheel..

cheers geoff
