What is the best way to clean water hoses that bring fresh water into the caravan via a Whalemaster pump. I have noticed black bits in the sink. So I have to use a cup to fill the kettle. I am a newbie. I have a brand new fresh water container that was rinsed out before use. Thanks for any advice.

regards Patricia

I sterilise my systemwith milton steriliser. It must be rinsed out thoroughly afterwards as milton will corrode the metal bits if left in the system.

I wouldnt use my aquaroll/pump/pies and tap to fill the kettle due to the fact the water sits there for a while anyway.

I prefure to have a mineral bottle of water that I fill up from the site tap directly and then fill the kettle.

I use a product called Puri-clean.  You can get it from places like Towsure.  I mix it in the water carrier according to the instructions and then run it through the pump, leave it to stand for an hour or so, drain, good rinse and run plenty of clean water through the pipes and jobs a good 'un.

I do this prior to every trip out.  I'm not too concerned about the water standing in the carrier as I tend to have to fill it every day anyway but as mentioned above, it's a good idea to let everything dry off properly when you're not using it.

I use this too, but I have to admit, not very often.  No black bits, and I'm still alive!  I don't let water sitting in the pipes worry me (but we always let the tap ru a little before using) - they sit in the pipes at home too.  We drain off every time we leave a site.  If the tea tastes funny then we used bottle, but the water in the UK has such a variable taste depending on where you are.

Another vote for Puriclean. We use it before we go away after winter, then before each trip if the van has not been used for a few weeks.

We have always use the water in the Aquaroll/on-board tank for everything, including drinking, without any problems.
