Would you recommend/or which is better - a freestanding with own legs Campinggaz camping chef plus stove - enables it to be located outside quickly tent for cooking OR a legless stove on top of a kitchen unit?
I chose the Camping Chef Plus. I have a largish table that we use for food preparation etc., but I like having the stove separate, stable and easy to shift. The gas canister sits underneath, and there is a shelf for pans.
We prep the food on the table, I get cooking, and then the table is cleared for people to eat at it.
It is, I am sure, a matter of personal taste, and you can get a fine setup with a kitchen unit.
We've got the Campingaz Kitchen Extra. Its proven brilliant - very sturdy, no risk of the stove being knocked off a table, no need to carry an extra table or kitchen unit, adjustable legs so can cater for uneven ground and a useful combination of shelves and windshields, plus main shelf below. The griddle is fantastic and easy to clean! We combine with the folding single slice toaster, which does fab toast in seconds.
We originally ordered the version without the fabric cupboard but was sent this instead as the company had run out of the version we ordered. We only fit the cupboard for longer stops as its a bit fiddly, opting for the shelf under option for shorter stop-overs. However, the fabric cupboard actually turns inside out to form a bag for the whole stove including legs - so proven very useful in that way - saves having to buy a bag or keep the box.
As none of the little extras can be bought separate - it certainly makes sense to buy the whole thing - especially when you can get it for around £50 if you hunt.
We have the camping gas kitchen extra too.....or something very similar....and its great....it lives outside the tent and the `cupboard` at the bottom is very sturdy for storage. We also have a small roll up type table next to it for food prep etc...
Once we forgot the legs, and it works on a table top too..
Or do what I did - get a 2 burner stove with grill that has folding legs so you can use it free standing or fold the legs up and use it on a kitchen stand!!
Great 3 burner with a built in drop down grill. Legs if you want it free standing or use on a table. It all folds into a carry care - great piee of kit IMO. Covers all eventuaities!

We were given it when we first started camping - there was one on eBay recently. According to the listing it is a rare classic!! It is green and yellow if that helps!!
