Hi, We have a Lunar Chateau 500 and have always used our full Dorema awning, but we recently bought a Sunncamp Swift porch awning as an easier, lighter alternative. We tried to use it for the first time this weekend, but every time we went to thread the beading through the awning rail on the van it kept slipping out half way along! We persevered and thought we'd managed to get it to stay in, but half an our later it had come loose and half of it was flapping round in the breeze! We ended up taking it down and putting our full awning up again, which defeated the object of buying the porch in the first place! Has anyone else ever had this problem and is there a way we can make the beading fatter or something to get it to stay put in the rail?! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
...it's not really meant for what you want but it could possibly be slipped onto the channel edge and help close the gap a little.(..a bit of a faff about though..)
Just to add....Is it "peeling out" from the ends or just generally pulling out of the channel?..maybe just "wedging" the ends with something would help?
Thanks Pepe, that's the kind of thing I was thinking about, might give that a go. Do you think it would be feesable to superglue it to the beading so we can just thread the whole thing through?!
There are no wide spots causing a problem and it tends to just pop out wherever it feels like, rather than peeling from the ends, so I definately think the beading is too thin for our rail. I didn't realise there were different sizes, I thought they were all the same thickness!
Well....when I say different sizes, the beads on awnings should be 6mm but it's the Fiamma windout awnings take 4mm beads....
How does the bead on the Sunncamp compare to the one on your Dorema awning?
..if the Sunncamp bead is smaller, then maybe that strip would work..(but it would need to be slipped onto the lip of the channel, not fixed to the bead)and if you glued the strip into place, wouldn't that make it too tight for your main awning?
(..or is that slightly "slack" as well?)...if that's loose as well, maybe it'd be worth gently closing up the awning rail a little...?
I see! The beading looks the same on both awnings and our full awning fits perfectly well and never comes out so I guess we couldn't glue the strip in! Think I might contact Sunncamp and find out if maybe it could be faulty?!
I suppose even if the beads are the same size,it could be possible that the Sunncamp bead is compressing more and that's why it's pulling through....
Although don't forget that the Sunncamp is only fastened along a relatively short length (and this is a straight axis),whereas I'm assuming your Dorema awning has greater bead length (..and is maybe also fastened on the two uprights?)..so I would just double check the rail....
But as you say,it's worth calling Sunncamp,to see if they've had other problems...
