I have a bailey Ranger 380/2. It as a tiny bathroom, which has a basin shower and loo. The basin has a mizer tap, which extends to fit into a shower holder. We do not use the shower, but with the tap in position over the sink, it has recently started to leak. Its not a major problem as any leaked water makes its way to the plughole. Has anyone else had the same problem? I cant work out if the tap is leaking or the extendable hose that is leaking. I have seen in my local caravan spares shop that they sell taps, but I dont really want to buy a new tap only to find its the hose.  Any help greatly appreciated !

Hi. Does the leak only happen when you are running another tap - say in the kitchen. With our (old) new van we had that problem. Run the kitchen tap and the water comes out in the bathroom. Do your taps have microswitches to work the pump or does it use a pressure-operated system. We found that the hot tap had failed and was open all the time. In addition, both the switches had failed so I replaced the tap unit. Now all works fine. Cost around £20 for the taps and about half an hour of work.

Pete

Hi Pete, no, the leak only happens when the bathroom tap is turned on. I am a bit vague as to how it works, but all I can say is that the aqua-roll has a Whale pump immersed in it, so I can only assume it is worked on pressure, as when the tap is turned on, you can hear the whir of a pump noise.

The system is pressurised in your Bailey.
Does it leak all the time and by how much. Depending on how bad this is, the pump will run now and again to re-pressure the system; does this occur? Can you draw the tap out of the base fitting to try and see exactly where it's leaking from? I assume too that you've checked the flexible hose is screwed tight onto the tap part, plus there's a small washer in the end of the screw-on part so check that's ok too.

How old is the van MJBS?  If it's less than 3 years old, I wouldn't mess with it - take it back to the dealer.  The water system is guaranteed for 3 years, but if you start messing with it, they may not want to look at it under warranty.

I have a washroom tap which leaks very slightly (Bailey Sancerre, so it's a different set up).  Took it into a transient warranty dealer today.  They were excellent - spent ages on it and they have decided we need a new tap curtesy of the warranty.

hi David, thanks for the info. The van is a 2004 model, it came with a one year warranty from the dealership, and thats up in Nov this year, so we could ask them if the tap is covered?

Hi MJBS.  I would just say that you need them to look at the tap as part of the one year warranty they have supplied for you.  I wouldn't give them the opportunity to say no.  Unless of course you have a document that tells you exactly what the warranty covers - in which case, you will be governed by this.

hi David, yes I will have to dig out the purchasing documents, as the year is up in Nov which isnt far away. To be honest, though, even if it IS covered, it will mean towing the caravan for 30 miles there then 30 back, when it could be easier to tow it to a more local caravan spares centre for them to look at it?!

G7ACU, thanks I have just read your comments. No it does not leak all the time, only when the tap is turned on, whether on hot only, cold only, or mixed. I cant tell if its the tap of the hose, I would say its the tap, or at least a bit of each, the tap connecting to the hose. The pump does not come on, only when the water is drawn, in the usual manner.

sounds like the hose is split on the underside.if so you can sometimes buy a repair kit for about £5 to £8.the hose just screws on to the underside of the tap.the reason it only leaks with tap on is because no water is going into the pipe with it off.

Thanks Michael, after all the help I have had here, I am more certain it is the hose, rather than the tap itself. We are off using the caravan next weekend, which will give me some time to check out the screw and the hose...
