So what does everyone recommend us to buy? Size is much the same on all the models we have looked at so it seems down to reliability, over to you. Thanks

One of the main features to consider is how much they cool below ambient temperature. I would recommend looking for one that cools to 30 degrees below ambient, some cool 25 below and some less than that!

A 30 below model will only cost a little more but will ensure your stuff stays nice and cool even in the very hottest temperatures.

Regarding brand, Waeco (now rebranded as Dometic) seem to be the market leader, we have one and have been very happy with both the build and performance!

We have the Waeco its recently been replaced by Dometic R1200 which cools to 25degs below ambient but if you will be camping abroad & can stretch to the extra I'd go for the Dometic R2200 which gets up to 33degs below ambient.

We've had ours almost 2 years now and its been brilliant, we've used it abroad and at home -  It makes a very good beer fridge for parties!!  Its completely silent and is great because you can load it up with food before heading off in the car and use it on 12v whilst driving.  If you use it on gas you have to keep it well ventilated  - but if you buy one of these it will last you years and years!

My vote goes to the Dometic range too. We have the R1700 and can't praise it highly enough. It cost about £170 last year we have used it in the UK and in France. We had outside air temperatures of 32C in France this Summer and the fridge still managed to freeze water for ice cubes. You can't ask for more than that!

Cheers

Bert

Would agree with bertie we had 35degree in the utility tent in Norfolk this year and the 1700 made ice cubes, not bad when its only supposed to go to 30 below.

I agree with Fiona, I don't have a Dometic or Waeco but a Camping Gaz three way over twenty years old and still going strong.
