Well we love our fixed bed in the caravan - much more comfortable than making up the beds each nigh and using sleeping bags. The down side is making the bed. What a pain it is to try and tuck in the mattress protector and bottom sheet - especially the side that touches the outside wall (well, I mean the protector panel).
Does anyone else have the same problem and what are the solutions. I just wondered if it was worth forking out for custom made fitted mattress protector and bottom sheet. These (and other products by the same company) look good, but they are expensive. Anyone used them, and are they worth it? Do they make it any easier to make the bed?

Hi.
We just use a normal rectangular shaped fitted sheet and protector. You get a little bit dangling where the mattress is cut away but we then just tuck this under.
Agree it is a pain to get the wall side tucked in. I lift the wall side of the mattress towards me ( b####y difficult ) and fit the protector and sheet at the same time then tuck in the near side. At least with the fitted sheets you only need do it once a week.

To get the job done well..we find its a 2man job..its alot quicker with 2 of you doin it...
We totally lift off the mattress onto the floor on its side and we both slip the bottom sheet over it...just a normal flitted double sheet...slip the elasticated corners over the ends nearest the outside wall and put mattress back on the bed..then slip the other 2 corners on...just tuck under the excess from where the corner is cut awayand ya sorted..done it minutes...

We use a stretchy fitted sheet from Lidl (£4.99). OH gets the matress right off onto its edge so we can hook the far side on.

You will need to wait till they get them in again, they are not a stock item. If not already, then sign up for their offers e mail so you will know in advance when they are having them. I think I have seen them on offer at least 4 times this year so far, so they do seem to be popular.
For our fixed bed I find the king size ideal, but if you know your matress size, the packet tells you what sizes they fit.

I wonder if this would work as an alternative to a mattress protector. Perhaps the cut off bit would be a problem.
Still like the look of the Jonic stuff, but the price is putting me off.

If you can sew at all, cutting off the corner and refixing the elastics is a pretty easy job. Ideally with a sewing machine, but even hand sewing would be fine, turn over the cut edge and sew down, or blanket stitch the edge. It is just to stop it fraying in use.
I was going to make shaped fitted sheets (would not pay the Jonic prices) but spotted the stretchy ones and saved myself the trouble.

We use a standard fitted sheet put on upside down on the living room floor then secure it with sheet straps, like susperners but at both ends, works for us & sheet stays put,

Just helped my son and OH move into a new appartment. I was especially interested in his bottom sheet. (!?) Most of the fitted bottom sheets I have seen just have elastic bits at each corner. The one he bought had elastic all the way around. I thought that these would be ideal for the 'van, and would make a better fit. Might pop along to TKMax.

Have just been to TKMAX to buy some bottom fitted sheets for the caravan fixed bed. If anyone is interested, the ones with the elastic all around are branded 'SOHO LIVING'. (There may be other makes - the lady was v. helpful and took them out of the packets to check for elastic all the way around - and then folded them back up again). They come in a variety of colours in store, but the website shows very little - I bought the standard double fitted sheet - actually I bought 2 - £5.99 each.
Went straight to the van and it virtually fitted like a glove and took no time at all to put on, even without help - just a little bit of tucking under at the cut-off bit of the bed. IMHO not worth the bother getting the DW to get the sewing box out to make the alteration. Don't know what they are like to use, yet, but on the face of it, the best fitted sheet I have seen. There may, of course be others where the elastic goes all the way around. For me, this is the way to go for a bottom sheet on a fixed bed. Sorted!! - and thank you TKMAX Tamworth for your help this morning.
