I bought a hotplate this summer for cooking in the awning. Trying to reduce the amount of steam and smells in the van. Make sure it's on a sturdy surface (that won't melt) as they do get hot all around the base.

I wish I had bought one sooner.

We have one.  My Father in Law does the electical testing for a local charity shop  so when one arrived at the shop he tested it for us so we know it is OK and cost us the grand sum of £3.  It was great for cooking tea in the tent when it was pouring down with rain outside, there is no way I will use gas in the tent.  Wiish I had got one sooner.

We bought one to use this year and it was great.  The bottom of ours never got more than a little warm and it more than earnt its keep.  I did wonder if we'd have trouble with it blowing the electrics but on the 3 sites we stayed on we managed to use both rings and use the kettle too so it obviously doesn't use a vast amount of power.

The 2 rings are in total 2500W so that would mean at least 12A of electricity on campsites to cope with that amount of wattage without tripping the EHU

Electric rings are also alot slower than gas / petrol so for us, another reason not to have one.

Plus EHU  limits the choice of pitch/site so for us. Coleman duelfuel is our preference.... fast, efficient, economical and can be used on every site :)
