I have just had our free paper posted through the door and there is a full page spread about a new outdoor clothing and equipment store opening in Newcastle upon tyne on Northumberland Street.

I cant say I have heard of them but wondered if  any of you lovely people had and what they were like

As has been said before, fantastic people, great store but can be pricey due to the fact it tends to stock (mainly) top spec equipment.

Maybe someone from UKCS can barter a discount for members here? They do arrange discounts for clubs etc usually 10% and they used to give another 10% for bulk orders in excess of £2000.

We have one in Norwich, can be a bit pricey but it's all top range stuff.  I bought a good pair of regatta walking trousers there and they were actually cheaper than in Go Outdoors even with discount card.

They just don't stock the cheap brands

As everyone has mentioned; they are expensive but then if you want top quality equipment you are going to have to pay for it - Think Rab, Mountain Equipment, Terra Nova et al. You will be extremely lucky to find those sort of brands discounted because the companies involved can sell everything they make.

If you want affordable/cheap then I certainly would not be going to Cotswold. They do cater for the specialist end of the market. I have bought gear from them in the past and it has tended to be things like MSR stoves for snow melting - not the usual camping gear needed for the Family when on holiday in Cornwall

The staff attitude seems to have improved. When they first started, if you went into one of their shops and were over 25/30 then they tended to ignore you

Quality gear is their focus and for that you have to pay. However, many organisations provide a discount card for their members with 10% to 15% discounts available. Ramblers, CTC, Guides, Armed Forces to name just a few. You may be in an organisation that has negotiated such discounts for their members, so its worth checking. Wonder if this site has? Maybe the CC and C&CC should do so. My son is in the CTC so when we visit him in Harrogate we take him shopping at the Harrogate store!
