Me and my OH are off on our first camping trip a week Monday to Longnor Wood in Derbyshire. I've got a Camping Gaz Camping Chef Stove and a Camp Kitchen to put it on. The only thing i'm worried about is where to put it. Obviously I don't want to cook inside the tent, but don't want it (or me!) to get soaked if it rains. I'd love some suggestions of what I could get to create a little cooking shelter, preferably with a canopy/roof. Something simple to erect and keep up for the four nights that isn't too expensive!
welcome (la) traviata, welcome to UKCS. what you probabaly want to look at are day tents. These generally have 2/3 or 4 sides which can be zipped open. They are ideal. check out ebay theres quite a few there. They can be quite dear though. You might want to google windbreak with canopy. There are a few of those and they are good too.
I got a tarp which is essentially a bit of tent fabric with eyelets, a couple of poles and some guy rope. I got mine in field and trek but I've looked for the link and couldn't find it. I know Decathlon have one for sure.
I also use my decathlon pop up base seconds which is a tall, walk in height pop up tent. I put a table and my cooking gear in there to create a kitchen. Those base seconds have been discontinued, but there is some stock available at £30 off if you're lucky enough to get one.
Another option is a canopied windbreak, I know gelert do one and it's on the Outdoor Megastore website.
We surround our camp kitchen with a windbreak and have a large angling umbrella with guy ropes which goes over the top and covers everything underneath, works very well!
Hi, if you decide on the Decathlon tarp it is £20 online from the store with a £3.50 (ish) delivery charge. Buying on ebay will cost you about £28+ and a delivery charge of about £9!! ps, the tarp is my prized camping item!
Easy enough really can be a bit of a bugger if its windy ours has 6 guys it come with 2 poles an eye in each corner we got 2 spare poles from go outdoors and away we went
I use a tarp, i'm getting better each time. It is easier to put up if there are 2 people. It is possible with 1. The thing to remember if the tarp is going over the front of the tent is the guys go to wards the back of the tent; as this prevent the tarp popping off, which I found out, the previous time. I put 2 guys on each pole for stability. 1 last thing, to prevent pooling is to have the poles at differing heights, allowing the rain to run off. I hope this helps.
I used to use a tent canopy, vango one off ebay than put a windbreak up. Everyone used to laugh when i said i have kitchen! It was big enough to put a couple of chairs in and kept the little ones away from all the hot and sharp things. We had this up in high winds on one trip and it never moved The choice is yours, happy camping!
