Probably best to check the concentration of the liquid and its recommended dilution rates given by the manufacturer, then do the maths!

Bio Blue (actually "green", just coloured blue), for example, appears at first glance to be about four times the price of your suggestion, but the dilution rates may make it work out cheaper in use.

Where space/weight is an issue, a smaller bottle of concentrated fluid is of course preferrable.

Sorry, that should read Blue Bio.

I found that elsan double blue was more economical than the normal strength ones . £8.99 here for 2 x 1 litre bottles of double concentrate, so you only need to use half the amount ,and of course it means smaller bottles too, but it will also depend if you have to pay postage , or whats on offer at your local shop.
I also much prefer the scent of this one to the thetford brand.

Some folk have posted how they've had success using various supermarket own brand washing liquids in their cassettes...

I once picked up a bottle of the Blue diamomd 10% fluid thinking it was good value, but then found that it was halpf the strength of the normal Blue diamong fluid so you needed to use twice as much.

I now use either elsan traditional toilet fluid which is releatively cheap at one of our local caravan dealers or preferably Lowdhams toilet blue which is full strength fluid and sells at £4.99 for 2 litres.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

We used pine disinfectant this weekend away in our toilet, cheap and cheerfull with no bad smells whatsoever.

I suppose it all depends on what you plan to do in your toilet. Ours was only for number 1's! lol

I use Elsan double blue and double pink (blue bottom and pink flush), £14 odd for both bottles at the moment.

I bought a bargain as well - a small poptop caravan cover for under £40. Just waiting for it to arrive and contemplating cleaning the caravan before it does. Yuck!

I suppose for a good comparisen we need price per litre and how much you have to use.

For instance Fenwicks Top and Tail is £10 in Halfords for 2.5 litres and each dose needs 125ml in bottom and 50ml in top = 175ml per dose = 14.29  doses per 2.5l = 70p per dose !?? Seems a lot !!!? Have I messed up the calculation ? If not I might have to start using the communal facilites !

One Chem from Johns Cross is £10.99 for 1ltre, each dose is 20ml in bottom, 5ml in top = 25ml per dose = 40 doses per 1litre = 27.47p per dose ! Bargain ! Never used it before but I think I may start now .... Oops forgot postage so it will be more.

All based on a 20litre waste tank and an 8 litre flush tank. I think I feel a spread sheet coming on !

Yes I am very bored as I am waiting for the plumber to come and unblock the drains !!!

Still waiting !

Very bored now.....

I'm getting a bit sceptical about all of these chemicals. Are they really so important if you empty the waste daily and give the tank a good rinse through each time. The reason I say this is because a friend of mine has a composting toilet at home and that never smells when I have used it and they don't put any chemicals in it only a handful of used potting compost! I seem to recall that some time back I saw a venting device advertised the created a negative pressure to the tank opening each time it was used (think there was a small fan) and the idea was that any smells would not get inside the caravan due to the difference in air pressure and any smells would be vented outside via an air filter. It is not only the cost but also the impact on the environment of the chemicals, even the so called green ones. Anyone got any thoughts?

Yeah,as I mentioned earlier, quite a few people use cheap, bio clothes washing liquids...supposedly cheaper than "proper" chemicals and used in the quantities/dilutions we're talking about here, probably a lot less harmful....

The SOG system you talk of,has been discussed on here...some people say that it just "blows" the stink outside onto next doors pitch ...and that the content really smell when you empty the cassette  (as no chemicals are used)..

However others swear by 'em..and say that they'd never have a van without the system fitted...
